The Max A. Shacknai Center for Outreach, Volunteerism and Education (COVE) fosters a commitment to social responsibility and community engagement among the Colgate community through mutually beneficial, community-centered partnerships. The Upstate Institute engages in these same partnerships from a community-based research perspective, and provides opportunities for the Colgate community to participate in a reciprocal transfer of knowledge with the region. The COVE supports campus-wide student volunteerism and outreach through student-led teams, and the Upstate Institute supports scholarly collaboration through faculty and student research. Together, these offices build and nurture engagement between the community and region in and out of the classroom.


As a Team Advisor in the Max. A. Shacknai Center for Outreach, Volunteerism, and Education, this position is primarily responsible for the oversight of a portfolio of student volunteer teams, events, and trainings on campus, as well as communication with various community partners and organizations.


Areas of focus include responsibility for:

  • accountable for ensuring that all student leaders and members within assigned areas receive sufficient training to meet their obligations;
  • high quality development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned volunteer teams;
  • ensuring that students have access to opportunities for student group membership and leadership and that they receive value as a result of their participation in the community;
  • encouraging students to achieve a sense of responsibility for their personal growth and academic success;
  • effective outreach to students and proactively ensuring students engage in campus life area through personal interactions, and various media;
  • applying knowledge of campus life area to the development and execution of programs that align with and foster the development of students within program areas. Ensures effective and responsible execution of these programs;
  • developing and sharing knowledge about campus life area and University policies and procedures;
  • effective management of logistics for event and programs including accurate capture and maintenance of records and program data;
  • generating ideas for program execution;
  • assessing and making appropriate judgements in cases of emergencies;
  • managing assigned budgets;
  • as required, effectively supervising students; and
  • other duties as assigned.


Education:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is preferred; if a Master’s, a related field such as higher education administration, education, social work, or counseling is preferred
