Strength and Conditioning Coach

LMR Technical Group (LMR) is seeking a Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our team.

Location: Columbus AFB, MS

Background

The Comprehensive Readiness for Aircrew Flying Training (CRAFT) initiative, launched in 2020 by the Air Education and Training Command (AETC), enhances pilot training through a holistic approach aimed at strengthening the physical and mental capabilities of Air Force pilots. Designed to tackle the demands of flying high-performance aircraft and modern aerial warfare, CRAFT integrates three core pillars into its curriculum: educational foundation, performance enhancement, and early injury prevention. This structured program extends across undergraduate and graduate training, enriching learning outcomes, promoting teamwork, and building resilience with value-added training touchpoints.

Aligned with the 19th Air Force Pilot Training Transformation, CRAFT utilizes the latest in instructional technology and teaching methods to prepare pilots for both current and future combat challenges. It also ensures a smooth transition to operational units, optimizing human performance continuity with state-of-the-art technology and effective data management, thereby advancing the Air Force’s human weapon system.

Scope Of Work

The Strength and Conditioning Coach at LMR Technical Group plays a crucial role in the Human Performance Optimization (HPO) initiative. This role involves developing and implementing specialized training protocols that maximize physical performance and reduce injury risks among fighter pilots. The coach will employ a holistic approach to training that incorporates prehabilitation, performance training, and strength and conditioning tailored to the needs of USAF aircrew training personnel. Daily activities include programming, instruction, demonstration, and fitness assessments, designed to prepare aircrew for the rigors of combat aviation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive strength and conditioning programs that cater to the unique demands of fighter pilot training and operations.
  • Employ holistic training methodologies, including 'prehab' performance training, to enhance overall fitness and prevent injuries.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of physical training programs and make necessary adjustments to optimize performance outcomes.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice to execute, sustain, and modify/update HP program courseware and other deliverables.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including cognitive performance specialists, performance dietitians, and physical therapists, ensuring a holistic approach to pilot fitness and rehabilitation.
  • Instruct various educational blocks on health, fitness, and physical performance, utilizing relevant technologies to enhance training programs and client outcomes.
  • Design and implement both general and specific training programs upon request and coordinate these programs with HP staff to ensure a safe return to training for recovering athletes.
  • Maintain detailed records of program designs, athlete progress, and program efficacy to inform future training strategies and demonstrate results.
  • Develop and provide strength and conditioning content and materials for educational purposes, ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the training facility and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science, health science, physical education, or a related field.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCA).
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist, preferably with tactical, professional, or collegiate athletes.
  • Current certification in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) including Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Pass required background check: National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Strength and Conditioning Association Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC)
  • Functional Movement Systems (FMS) Certification, Level 1 (or higher)
  • Functional Movement Systems Y Balance Test Certification

Additional Requirements

  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey training concepts and program benefits to team members and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in analyzing performance data and adapting training protocols to meet specific athletic needs.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to integrate strength and conditioning programs with other health and performance initiatives.
  • Proficient with computers, e-mail, voicemail, and mobile messaging, including MS Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Conditions

  • The Strength and Conditioning Coach will primarily work in the HPO facility but may also need to provide services in various training environments around the base.
  • This role may require flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to accommodate training schedules.
