General Description Of Position

  • The SCC is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE, 40-hours a week) Staff Therapist/Psychologist who is an innovative, and creative mental health professional that is eager to provide culturally-responsive clinical mental health services, to build strong collaborative relationships in providing community-based outreach, and strengthening campus-wide relationships with colleagues and students engaging in social justice work.
  • The SCC is committed to prioritizing the needs of our marginalized college students by engaging in systemic and individual interventions to address how systems of oppression, marginalization, social inequities, and trauma stemming from oppression have impacted their lives.
  • Salary range is between $65,000-$80,000 and will be commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

  • Offer multiculturally-attuned virtual and in-person psychotherapy services to undergraduate and graduate students including initial and crisis 30-minute triage consultations, short-term individual therapy, group therapy, and effective referrals to community mental health providers.
  • Serve as a primary or secondary clinical supervisor to our practicum trainees and collaborate with senior staff to facilitate and participate in professional development seminars and our anti-oppression affinity-based groups for our trainees.
  • Invest in campus-wide interdisciplinary coalition building with fellow anti-oppression co-conspirators that are serving our minoritized communities.
  • Participate and serve as a mental health consultant/liaison in division and/or university-wide committees, meetings, events, and building relationships with colleagues.
  • Offer 3rd-party mental health consultations to faculty, staff, and support systems regarding students in distress.
  • Receiving mentorship and connection within your chosen identity-based affinity spaces is encouraged by the center through time allocation and support.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical documentation, case management, and scheduling using Titanium Schedule, our electronic medical record system.
  • Collaborate with other senior staff in the procurement of assessment data that informs the development and review of agency policy, procedures, and protocols using an equity lens.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to periodic schedule changes. Clinic schedule is established collaboratively, though coverage that meets students’ needs is prioritized.
  • Ability to routinely work into early evening hours (i.e., 2 nights a week until 6:00 p.m.) and for community engagement activities.
  • SCC staff work in-person in both of our Forest Grove and Hillsboro clinics and virtually serve all of our students residing in Oregon including our Woodburn and Eugene campuses.
  • Participate in ongoing continuing education opportunities to maintain your professional license and professional development to contribute to the growth and development of the SCC. Annual professional development stipend provided by the SCC.

Secondary Functions

  • Occasional rotating on-call crisis consultation for evenings, weekends, and holidays when the Director is unavailable to be on-call.
  • Occasionally need to collaborate with senior staff to provide administrative support when our Clinic Coordinator is out of the office.
  • Occasional weekday evenings or weekend hours required for outreach programming.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education And/Or Experience

  • Masters in Social Work, Masters in Counseling, Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling, Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology, or equivalent degree.
  • Eligible to register as a Clinical Social Work Associate, Licensed Professional Counseling Intern, Psychologist Resident, or equivalent pre-licensure status in the State of Oregon (i.e., if you are pre-licensed then supervision and/or a stipend for supervision may be negotiated).
  • Experiences in working with marginalized communities.
  • Cultural humility, knowledge, and demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression and social justice.

Preferred Criteria

  • Independently licensed as a Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or equivalent mental health licensure in the state of Oregon (i.e., or licensed in your state of residence with the ability to promptly be licensed in Oregon).
  • Preferred ability to provide bilingual clinical and outreach services to the campus community.
  • Candidates from minoritized groups in higher education are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience working in a university/college counseling center.

  • Evidence of knowledge and skill in providing clinical supervision and/or facilitating professional development seminars on topics related to college mental health to our graduate-level practicum students.
  • Evidence of skill in effectively assessing, intervening, and providing appropriate follow-up care for students facing mental health emergencies.
  • Evidence of skill in offering consultation to faculty, staff, students, and support communities.
  • Ability to assist in needs assessment and outcome evaluations.
  • Uses effective intercultural communication skills taking into consideration body language, listening, paraphrasing, and questions with students of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicates with students, faculty, staff, and the public appropriate to the age and development level of the individual served.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills with an equity lens in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Demonstrates humility by asking questions, acknowledging mistakes, and seeking support from others.
  • Demonstrates legal and ethical mandates of confidentiality regarding information pertaining to all students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintains appearance and personal conduct relevant to the employee’s particular job.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment.

Job Scope

  • Scope falls within Essential Functions described above

  • Oversight of special projects on occasion in collaboration with colleagues with Student Counseling Center Director and on- and off-campus colleagues
  • Performs duties independently, operating from specific Student Counseling Center policies and procedures and general university policies.
  • Complies with legal and ethical standards governing mental health practice in the State of Oregon and professional organizations.

Supervisor Responsibility

  • Job has no employee/administrative supervisory responsibility
  • Depending on credentials may play a role in providing clinical supervision to practicum trainees

Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment that is co-located with the Student Health Center
  • Routine evening and occasional weekend hours required.
  • Ability to travel between clinics as necessary
