NextDecade Corporation is an energy company accelerating the path to a net-zero future and leading innovation in more sustainable LNG and carbon capture solutions, NextDecade is committed to providing the world access to cleaner energy. Through our wholly owned subsidiaries Rio Grande LNG and NEXT Carbon Solutions, we are developing a 27 MTPA LNG export facility in South Texas along with one of the largest carbon capture and storage projects in North America. SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and direction as listed. This role has the responsibility of delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence.

This position serves as a Senior Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineer & Design lead on assigned projects or performs complex engineering assignments, evaluates, selects, and applies advanced engineering techniques to a broad set of assignments.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development and maintain compliance of department standards, procedures, practices, and guidelines
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Apply cost competitive execution techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution for the discipline engineering work
  • Develop and review project Scope of Work, Scope of Facilities, and other project baseline documents for all phases of projects
  • Develop and review estimates and schedules, progress reports, including manpower forecasts
  • Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
  • Incorporate health, safety, and environmental factors in design
  • Develop and update job execution plans
  • Develop and build external relations with client representatives, vendors, and subcontractors and interface closely with other discipline functions promoting a “One Team” approach for execution
  • Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
  • Develop request for quotation, bid tabulations, and support the Supply Chain department with purchase orders. Evaluate substitutions for technical acceptability
  • Assign work to Junior Engineers/Designers, monitor and/or manage the work
  • Perform and check calculations and solve complex engineering problems
  • Lead the squad check effort for vendor/subcontractor documentation for assigned submittals
  • Review vendor/subcontractor documentation within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution
  • Prepare/review scopes of work for third party contracts
  • Support proposal and estimate activities
  • Identify deviations in job scope, estimate magnitude of changes, and initiate trends or change orders
  • Execute project work in accordance with approved Contract/SOW
  • Adhere to industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures
  • Participate in people development through mentoring, development of training material, conducting training seminars, and performance appraisal input and counseling


REQUIREMENTS

Minimum experience required for the position:

  • 10+ years of work related experience


Knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national
  • statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner


Advanced knowledge of:

  • Hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design, geotechnical engineering and investigations, boundary and topographical surveying (civil)
  • Performing hand and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures (structural)
  • Analyzing complex structures
  • Wind and Seismic loading in structural calculations (structural)
  • Dynamic analysis and design (structural)
  • Computer modeling and analysis (structural)
  • Vendor/subcontractor drawing/calculation review, intergroup review – squad checking
  • Engineering and fabricator drawing/calculation checking
  • Blast design (structural)
  • Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
  • Managing and leading a small/medium project


Intermediate/Basic knowledge of:

  • Architectural/Building designs
  • Procurement and construction aspects of engineering


Required education:

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study
  • Professional PE registration required


Work Environment

  • Must be able to wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.
  • Operates in a complex construction environment.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Not necessarily protected from weather and temperature changes. Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits.
  • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds of a pitch level sufficient to cause marked distraction.
  • Routinely uses standard office and field communications equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/scanner and fax, and radios.


Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Ability to drive to other Company work locations as required.
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including being physically capable of traveling to a designed muster point during emergency situations.
  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift.
  • The incumbent is required to have fully mechanical motion and usage of all extremities.
  • Physically able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle, and lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. without assistance.
  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate with others via radio, phone, and verbal methods.
  • May be required to enter confined spaces.
  • May be required to work at elevated heights and access elevated structures without assistance.
