Position Overview:

CalTex is looking for a proficient and motivated SQL & Python Developer that will help our business intelligence (BI) department evolve our data warehouse to the next level and support a variety of BI initiatives. This role is embedded within the BI department which means that you will be part of a team of business analysts that are dedicated to delivering business value through data-driven recommendations, insights, automated analytics, and project management. A strong candidate for this position will be able to leverage big picture thinking when writing and automating SQL & python code to meet the department’s goals and objectives in scope, on time, and under budget. A typical day in this role will range vastly from technical activities like enhancing existing ETL processes and pipelines, upgrading data warehouse tables and views, building business processes procedures and requirements (BRDs), validating data sources, to business activities like drafting new reports and analytics in data visualization software like Tableau and Domo and facilitating requirements gathering.

Soft Skills:

Technical Skills

  • Develop SQL / Python code end-to-end. Activities encompass design, auditing, and running operational code with minimal supervision.
  • Develop and implement pipelines that extract, transform, and load (ETL) data into environments that span across multiple cloud and on-prem infrastructures (MS Azure, MS SQL Server, AWS)
  • Strong experience in working with large volumes of data from a variety of sources to include integration, architecture, cleansing, engineering, and algorithm development.
  • Strong SQL development skills that include tuning, creating, and modifying stored procedures, SQL jobs, triggers, and functions
  • Translate complex technical and functional requirements into detailed workflows and procedure documentation.
  • Ability to research, analyze, validate data and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Experience in working with MS SQL Server, MS Azure, SSRS, SSIS, and T-SQL
  • Working knowledge of APIs (JSON, REST, SOAP), JavaScript
  • Python development skills with exposure to various libraries and tools (JSON, Pandas, DB connect, PyCharm)


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering / Data Science / Statistics / Business or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in developing SQL & Python automated solutions that solve problems requiring complex quantitative reasoning using data & modeling techniques.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert experience with statistical programming tools such as Python, R, SAS, BigQuery ML, Spark ML, Hadoop, SQL, and/or others
  • Expertise in machine learning algorithms and techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning, regression analysis, classification, clustering, and predictive analytics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement analytical solutions to complex business problems.
  • Research new theories and technologies in analytics to generate innovative ideas for practical models.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in ETL, relational databases, and data warehousing.
  • Comfortable gathering requirements from both technical and non-technical team members to translate concepts and algorithms into working prototypes and solutions.


Work Environment:

Most job responsibilities are performed while seated indoors with little exposure to hazards. Travel may be required for one to two weeks a year. Some flex hours may be required (must be able to work nights and weekends on a non-routine basis)
