Senior Test Engineer - Department of VA

Job Description

Overview:

As a Senior Test Engineer within the Department of VA, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of software applications and systems developed to support the VA's healthcare data sharing initiatives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and execute comprehensive testing strategies, leveraging your expertise in testing methodologies, automation tools, and healthcare domain knowledge. Having active VA clearance is a plus!

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts to ensure the functionality, usability, and performance of healthcare data sharing applications and systems.
• Collaborate with software developers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective test scenarios.
• Lead and mentor junior test engineers, providing guidance on testing best practices, methodologies, and tools.
• Design and implement automated testing frameworks and scripts using industry-standard tools such as Selenium, JUnit, or equivalent, to streamline testing processes and improve efficiency.
• Perform manual and automated testing across various platforms, including web, mobile, and backend systems, to identify defects and ensure adherence to quality standards.
• Analyze test results, track defects, and collaborate with development teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Conduct performance testing, load testing, and stress testing to assess system scalability and reliability under different conditions.
• Participate in requirements analysis, design reviews, and sprint planning sessions to provide input on testability and quality considerations.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies, testing trends, and industry best practices to continuously enhance testing processes and methodologies within the HDSO.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in software testing, with at least 6 years of experience in a senior or lead testing role.
• Strong knowledge of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices, with experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Proficiency in testing tools and frameworks such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or equivalent.
• Experience in healthcare IT or familiarity with healthcare standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Proven leadership abilities, with experience in mentoring and guiding junior team members.
• Certifications such as ISTQB Certified Tester, Agile Tester, or equivalent, are a plus.
