Senior Sales & Account Manager, Independent Sales


Position Summary:

The Senior Sales & Account Manager, Independent Sales, is responsible for managing customer relationships, achieving sales goals, and leading team members in the Great Boston and Rhode Island market area. Develop and nurture deep, impactful relationships with our customers, as well as with vendors, broker partners, and Chex cross-functional teams to deliver a best-in-class customer experience. Lead the planning, development, and implementation of sales plans and programs to drive growth and profitable sales revenue. Serve as account manager for key independent accounts. Inspire and coach direct reports managing additional accounts within the region. Model and champion Chex's Culture of Excellence values.


Territory - Greater Boston & Rhode Island market area.


Job Responsibilities


Customer Engagement

  • Primary relationship manager for top independent accounts, responsible for customer engagement, deepening relationships, achieving profitable sales and sustained growth.
  • Create partnering relationships of trust, integrity, customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Collaborate with customers to align sales targets, priorities, and sales plan execution.
  • Effectively utilize the tools and resources available, including Chex Business Intelligence, to enhance the customer experience.


Account Management

  • Develop and execute monthly and annual sales plans for top independent accounts to achieve sales goals, leveraging merchandising, promotions, advertising, shelf space, pricing, and new products.
  • Engage key decision makers. Make sales presentations to buyers, store managers and owners.
  • Successfully present business reviews, new item presentations, sales programs, ads and displays, maximizing seasonal, holiday, and themed opportunities, increasing new items, expanding private label business, and penetrating new categories.
  • Coordinate and execute all aspects of the promotional process. Work with brokers and vendors on promotional strategy and display opportunities.
  • Analyze data to make recommendations and provide solutions to increase brand and item movement, including items to add or delete.


Business Development

  • Collaborate to secure new accounts by identifying targets, effectively communicating the Chex value to independent retailers, and closing the business opportunity.
  • Monitor competitor activities in the sales territory, recommend paths forward to increase company sales, and follow up on these opportunities.
  • Know the market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services provided.


Team Engagement

  • Coach, develop and mentor direct reports to achieve goals and career growth.
  • Inspire direct reports and collaborate to deliver best-in-class customer experience and achieve sales goals.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and workflow to ensure efficient and effective execution of tasks and projects. Allocate resources appropriately and set clear performance expectations.
  • Call on additional accounts as needed and occasionally write and transmit orders for select customers.


Qualifications / Requirements / Skills / Attributes

  • Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of sales and account management experience in consumer-packaged goods industry; distributor, broker community preferred.
  • Relationship Builder: Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to successfully build relationships that demonstrate a win-win partnership approach and that aligns interests amongst our retailers, brands, and Chex.
  • Sales Mindset: Work and excel in an entrepreneurial environment and be highly motivated to grow sales; seek and find opportunities to drive growth.
  • Outstanding Communicator: Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively across all levels of the organization, including executive and C-level, with strong attention to detail and follow up.
  • Analytical: Leverage technology to gather, interpret and present data identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Commitment: Dedicated to making it happen. Relentless pursuit of getting it done. Highly motivated, results-driven, detailed follow-up skills, ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.


Travel / Physical Requirements

  • Headquarters in Mansfield, MA where monthly sales meetings are held. Overnight travel may be required to participate in trainings, meetings, or other company events.
  • Variation in work hours due to employee and customer schedules, special projects, deadlines, and tradeshows.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, and reaching both high and low near ground.
  • Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move product and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
