Position Summary

The Scientist, R&D initiates, directs and executes all pre-clinical scientific research and/or development strategies in research and/or development. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. Plans and executes laboratory research. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently designs and executes moderate to high complexity experiments
  • Contributes substantially and intellectually to research or development
  • Develops plans, makes some decisions, and carries out wet labwork
  • Solves problems and advances new ideas independently
  • Easily understands and evaluates high complexity data
  • Responsible for moderate sizes projects and associated timelines and deliverables
  • Assisting projects to create and develop novel nucleic acid based diagnostic tests, including planning, feasibility testing, protocol development, optimization, verification, validation, and launch
  • Working with partners and outside collaborations
  • Interacting with on-site CLIA lab, Sequencing and process development group
  • Designing and coordinating the execution of effective experiments and work with statistics and bioinformatics team
  • Perform basic data analysis (R, JMP, Excel)
  • Documenting research progress under a Quality Management System
  • Communicating progress directly with colleagues and senior management

Qualifications

  • Master’s in molecular biology, closely a related field, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of industry experience

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Track record of originating and developing novel nucleic acid techniques
  • Proven success in managing collaborative and individual projects, previous experience managing research associates a plus
  • Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis
  • Experience with nucleic acid technology relating to PCR, qPCR, multiplex PCR, and digital PCR
  • Experience with next generation sequencing, target enrichment experience is a plus
  • Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Adept with Excel, basic statistical analysis, programming (e.g. PERL, python) and databases experience (SQL) are a plus
  • Skills at writing clear plans, reports and SOPs, experience with Design Control a plusAble to aid with wet lab work and basic level of scientific leadership to junior staff

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
