Retail District Managers are responsible for overseeing and leading teams at multiple stores to achieve KPI (key performance indicators) goals, operational excellence through DGR (Donated Goods Retail) processes, and excellent customer service. District Managers are responsible for the overall financial performance and loss control activities within their assigned stores with a goal of funding GCI’s mission of making purposeful employment possible for all. In collaboration with the Retail team, they plan processes and lead teams, oversee inventory control and quality standards, and oversee customer service. Essential Functions:

Leadership

  • Leads, coaches, develops, and engages team members to meet individual and organization goals. Provides development opportunities to Store Managers and Assistant managers.
  • Works closely with Store Managers and Retail Leadership to hire and develop team members to lead with love, kindness, and respect while monitoring and analyzing business KPIs.
  • Fosters and models a positive and respectful team environment through relationship development and communication.
  • Analyzes processes and issues to find solutions or partners with others to make recommendations on solutions.
  • Provides effective performance management and coaching, delivers formal and informal performance feedback; ensures Store Managers have support and resources needed to manage and drive their store teams and business.
  • Acts as an ambassador of Goodwill within respective community and looks for opportunities to promote GCI.
  • Communicates clearly through various means to ensure all necessary information is delivered to stores and Store Management teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet organization needs.


Operations

  • Performs routine visits at all stores reviewing and examining processes for training, production, and safety. Also ensures machinery is in proper working order and meets safety requirements.
  • Fosters and maintains working relationship with the Operations team on deliveries of donated goods, truck mail, and supplies. Also provides input on inventory management.
  • Effectively carries out change management initiatives and communications.
  • Provides management coverage to retail stores if Store Management team is absent.
  • Visits stores regularly based on business needs while leading by example to coach and engage staff.
  • Works directly with Retail and Operations leaders to order and receive goods, resolve building or maintenance issues, and ensure a safe work environment.


Financial

  • Examines and analyzes expenses, production goals, and workforce hours to drive revenue and make recommendations to affect store performance.
  • In collaboration with Retail leaders, establishes and oversees goals for sales, production, store appearance, and employee performance.
  • Uses the organizational strategic plan and the retail department goals to drive retail’s contribution to fund the mission of Goodwill. Exercise decision making skills to enhance store financial impact.


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to successfully lead, develop, coach and train others.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrate and apply concepts related to the supervision of retail store activities, such as hiring, training, inventory control, quality management, sales/marketing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Work under pressure, maintain accuracy and meet deadlines.
  • Perform data and financial analysis, complete financial reports and facilitate presentations.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Pass an MVR and criminal background check. Have a valid Driver’s License, a good driving record and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance with a minimum of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident auto insurance liability coverage.
  • Travel consistently within our central Iowa territory stores to meet business needs.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of retail or leadership experience required.
  • Minimum two-year degree and/or equivalent skills and/or experience.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to regularly carry, lift, push or pull 40 pounds.
  • Ability to tolerate variations in work environment temperature.
  • Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel and work across retail stores, warehouse, and headquarters locations.
