Research Technician Position in Meiogenix, McGovern Center, Ithaca, NY

Following the completion of its 12m$ Series A, Meiogenix Inc., a global agricultural Chromosome Editing company, is seeking a highly motivated Technician to join our team at McGovern Center, the Cornell business incubator in Ithaca, NY.

Meiogenix is a biotech company with a new vision for agriculture. Our mission is to bring back the diversity in complex traits that has been lost during intensive breeding. We are using a combination of chromosome editing, AI, and advanced breeding technologies to unlock the unexplored genetic diversity of plants. Meiogenix aims to develop products that meet new food trends, adjust crops to climate change and eliminate the use of harmful chemicals.

The Research Technician will support Meiogenix research scientists in ongoing projects and research efforts. he ideal candidate will be self-motivated, pays attention to details, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate will also be expected contribute to smooth functioning of day-to-day operations of the lab, including general lab maintenance, in addition to being involved in the ongoing research efforts.


Key Responsibilities:

·      Perform tasks utilizing standard laboratory protocols to support ongoing projects:

  • Nucleic acid extraction
  • PCR and reverse transcription PCR
  • Protein Isolation and Western Blotting
  • Data analysis
  • Preparation of media/buffers
  • Greenhouse/Growth chamber plant care


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cell Biology, Plant Science, Molecular Biology, or related field; 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a demanding environment of a start-up.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with basic computer software, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
