Research Specialist - Volunteer Position - Onsite in Eswatini

The Southern Africa Nazarene University, Faculty of Health Sciences (SANU, FOHS) in Eswatini has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Research Specialist. SANU, FOHS aims to produce graduates who will be able to conduct research as basis for evidence-based practice and evidence-based changes, and the university has identified a need for support in setting up of the university research unit. The goal of a research unit is to enable interaction between faculty, scholars, students, and industry to enhance research opportunities, academic excellence, real-world problem solving, and knowledge creation and dissemination.

The PCRV will work with the Curriculum Development Committee Chair and other SANU, FOHS staff to assist in strengthening of existing research committees and their TORs. The volunteer will also develop research guidelines for both students and staff research and review the proposal guidelines that are already in place. The PCRV will teach some content in a nursing research module and also supervise student research. The goal of this assignment is to strengthen the university by supporting the creation of a functional research unit that will serve as a foundation for all research activities.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Eswatini together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

• Master’s degree in a field relevant to research and/or health
• 2 years of experience teaching at the university level
• Skills in multiple research methods and designs
• Ability to work effectively in a resource-constrained setting
• Experience with data analysis software e.g. SPSS or ENVIVO
• High tolerance for ambiguity and high level of flexibility
