Immediate opening for a Research Scientist, Microbial Product Development with a biopharmaceutical company in La Jolla, CA who possesses:

• Ph.D. in Microbiology or a Master's degree with 5+ years of industry experience
• Experience with microbial fermentation techniques, preferably with scale up to the pilot scale
• Experience with microbial product development and formulation

FULL DESCRIPTION:

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

• Develop novel microbial-based products to improve plant growth, soil health, and agricultural productivity.
• Design and implement experimental protocols to evaluate the efficacy of microbial formulations in laboratory, greenhouse, and field settings.
• Develop platforms to cultivate and optimize select microbes for product development.
• Scale production processes for microbial formulations to meet commercial demand while maintaining product quality and consistency.
• Conduct research to understand seed inoculum and its impact on plant-microbe interactions.
• Employ aseptic techniques and maintain sterile laboratory conditions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including research and development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing to drive product innovation and commercialization.
• Stay on top of advancements in microbial science, biotechnology, and agricultural research to inform product development strategies.
• Provide technical support and expertise to internal and external stakeholders, including farmers and partners from various business units.
• Maintain accurate records of experiments, results, and process parameters for documentation and analysis.
• Committed to accuracy, work flows, systems, and processes.
• Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
• Self-motivated, professional, detail-oriented, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills

The selected candidate will also possess:

• PhD or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Plant Science, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development, preferably in the agricultural or biotechnology industry.
• Proficiency in microbial fermentation techniques, microbial ecology, and molecular biology methods.
• Strong understanding of plant-microbe interactions and plant physiology.
• Hands-on experience with aseptic techniques and sterile laboratory practices.
• Demonstrated ability to design and execute experiments, analyze data, and draw meaningful conclusions.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  
  

Salary Range: $120k-140k/yr
