Research Analyst

Value Add is a popular trade publication for the private equity industry, with thousands of readers from some of the world's top firms including Blackstone, Permira, Advent International, and TA Associates. We publish weekly briefings about recent buyouts, as well as case studies, reports, and other research that provides more in-depth insight into the operating side of private equity.

We're growing and looking for additional research analysts to work with us on an ongoing, part-time basis. This is a great opportunity for MBA students, IB/MBB professionals, financial journalists, or anyone with a few hours available a week who is interested in building a portfolio of research on the private equity industry.

The time commitment is 20 hours per month (at a rate of $25 /hr). Approximately half of your time will be spent researching a topic, booking and interviewing subject matter experts, outlining research reports; the other half will be spent writing and editing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on trends in private equity portfolio operations, such as turnarounds, operational improvements, digital transformation, restructuring, governance, and talent management.
• Analyze company financial statements, earnings reports, and third-party research.
• Book and interview subject matter experts willing to speak on-the-record for comments or Q&As.
• Write in-depth (1,500-2,000 word) reports and case studies for a C-level executive audience.
• Build and format charts in Excel and PPT to be included in reports and case studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Experience interpreting financial statements and conducting research on companies.
• CFA charter holder is a plus, as is experience in valuations or equity research.
• Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to convey complex information clearly and engagingly.
• Curious, self-starter who is eager to dive into the world of corporate turnarounds.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
