Major Responsibilities

  • Administers speech therapy evaluations/treatments. Confers with physicians regarding changes in and/or appropriate therapy programs for patients, prepares patient records in a timely manner.
  • Provides supervision to support personnel and speech therapy students.
  • Evaluation and implementation of speech therapy treatment programs for patients with multiple diagnosis.Treatment procedures should be safely and effectively administered according to the department policy and procedures. Quality care should be delivered with positive outcomes.
  • Maintaining timely and accurate patient documentation. a. Evaluation of patient progress b. Accurate and timely discharge notes c. Consultation with physicians to keep them appraised of patient progress d. Patient billing and charges e. Patient attendance records
  • Maintain efficiency of treatment by coordinating activities with other Rehabilitation Service personnel (both professional and support personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned. If assigned to the Fitness Center, duties also include activities which support programming and other services available at that site. Therapist assigned to inpatient stroke units will receive an initial two hours stroke education and one hour annual education.

  • Masters Degree

  • N/A
  • License to practice S.T. in Illinois or eligibility. CPR certified

Physicial Requirements And Working Conditions

  • May be required to work weekends. May be required to work evenings. Very heavy lifting: Up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases. This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients. This position can recognize needs and behaviors of the following age groups: pediatric (newborn, toddler, school-age), adolescent, adult, older adult. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses.
  • This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 08/01/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
