The R&D Scientist must have the ability to collaborate with peers and management and demonstrate exceptional judgement and a high degree of professional maturity while modeling loyalty, integrity, and honesty. 


Qualifications of Candidate

·      BS or MS in chemistry or chemical engineering or other related fields.

·      Experience with analytical chemistry tests and instrumentation: titrations, UV-vis, IR, GC-MS, HPLC, etc. 

·      Experience with standardized engineering tools and processes such as PFDs, P&ID, statistical analysis, etc. 

·      Familiarity with cGMP, FDA, USP, EPA and related international regulations (e.g., BPR, REACH) and standards applicable to the manufacturing.

·      Textile industry experience – nonwovens, knits, fibers is preferred.

·      Demonstrate investigational and problem-solving skills.

·      Wet wipes manufacturing experience is preferred.

·      Cleanroom / Critical environment experience is preferred.

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.


Job Description

·      Designs and performs experiments to develop, test, and optimize contamination control products, including chemical formulation, delivery systems, and packaging, with desired attributes and benefits.

·      Works closely with Operations to design, implement, standardize, and continuously improve scale-up of contamination control products, including wipes, solutions, and their combinations that meet Berkshire’s quality requirements and customer needs.

·      Designs, develops, and standardizes test methods to substantiate product claims, respond to customer inquiries, and meet quality control/assurance needs of the organization.

·      Maintains and organizes detailed records of research and development activities including prototypes, data, reports and changes to design requirements.

·      Works with suppliers and vendors to manage raw material qualification and external testing needs.

·      Collects technical information of competitive products; devises and performs tests to compare competitive products with Berkshire products and manages and updates the comparative information database.

·      Works with the R&D team to identify new product ideas and help build the company’s product pipelines and business strategies.


Job Expectations

·      The employee is expected to dedicate the time necessary to accomplish the given job requirements.

·      On average, employment will require 40 hours per week at Berkshire facilities or off site on Berkshire business.

·      50% of the employee’s time is expected to be dedicated to experimentation and implementation in labs or manufacturing facility.

·      10 – 15% domestic and/or international travel to visit customers and suppliers is expected depending on specific project requirements.

·      Hands to finger, feel, and handle product; operate computer.

·      Frequent standing, sitting, and/or walking.

·      Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

·      Close, peripheral and depth perception vision.

·      Moderate noise level in production environment.

·      Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts.

·      Occasional work in a non-controlled temperature warehouse environment.
