Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses -- one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan.The Upper School, located in the Bronx, is comprised of approximately 600 students and 80 faculty members.

Position Summary

The Department of Student Support & Wellness is seeking a dynamic psychologist and health instructor. This is a full-time position which will be split between clinical work and classroom teaching, working across the Middle and Upper divisions of ECFS (grades 6-12). This role will report directly to the Executive Director of Student Support and Wellness. He/She/They will partner closely with the Middle and Upper School principals and work collaboratively with other administrators, the student support team, health and wellness educators, faculty, staff, and parents in support of student well-being.

The hiring range for this position is $68,212-$161,916 (subject to union negotiations).

Responsibilities

The specific responsibilities in your role as a Psychologist will include:

• Serving the individual psychological needs of students and to foster the psychological health and well-being of the entire Middle School community;
• Implementing individual and small group roundtable programming, wellness programs, specialized training programs, and consultation services to parents and teachers;
• Serving as a trusted resource in crisis moments for students, parents, and the community at large at all times;
• Providing consultation to faculty and staff regarding psychosocial issues affecting students and general adolescent development;
• Seeing students for short-term and intermittent guidance and making recommendations for treatment when necessary;
• Participating in the neuropsychological evaluation meetings and helping to provide appropriate recommendations and strategy plans for students.
  
  

The specific responsibilities in your role as a Health Teacher will include:

• Teaching health courses to both middle school and 9th grade students;
• Ensuring students master skills and competencies in relation to health topics, which include (but are not limited to): Brain development, Puberty, Hygiene, Mental Health, Stress, Anxiety and Mindfulness Shame, Vulnerability and Gratitude, Drugs and Alcohol, Healthy Relationships: Consent, Sex, Sexuality, and Porn Literacy;
• Working on curriculum development and alignment of health scope and sequence across all four divisions of ECFS;
• Collaborating with others to implement social-emotional and student wellness programs across grade levels;
• Supporting the instruction of colleagues currently teaching health courses/topics;
• Providing education and outreach to parents at each grade level (6-12) on adolescent development and emotional issues impacting their children.
• Facilitating faculty discussions connected to the general physical, emotional, and mental wellness of students.
  
  

Other Responsibilities Will Include

• Collaborating effectively and communicating clearly with administrators, teachers, parents, and students;
• Continuing to develop, enrich and evolve the the overall counseling and health program to meet ever-changing student needs;
• Attending grade level student review meetings or principal meetings when necessary;
• Staying informed and up to date on current research, trends and best practices through professional development;
• Performing other projects, tasks and duties as assigned.
  
  

Position Requirements

The successful incumbent will possess:

• A Ed.D, Ph.D, or Psy.D, LCSW, in clinical or school psychology or Certification in School Counseling preferred;
• New York State license and/or certification is a must;
• At least 3-5 years of previous experience teaching middle and high school aged students;
• Health Instructor certificate preferred;
• At least 3-5 years experience as a clinical supervisor in a school setting preferred;
• Experience with curriculum development and implementation;
• Previous knowledge of the ethical and legal considerations related to school-based counseling practices;
• Demonstrated skills and competence in providing mental health services to a diverse audience across racial, ethnic, religious, gender identity and expression, and socio-economic class identity;
• Excellent clinical, interpersonal, and crisis management skills;
• A collaborative, team-based approach to working with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and outside care providers;
• Experience co-facilitating conversations and training with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) educators;
• Outstanding communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner;
• Demonstrated professionalism in handling sensitive issues with a high level of integrity and confidentiality;
• Respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms;
• The ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
