Job Opportunity

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join our FastCAT team. FastCAT is a parametric insurance solution created by BHSI to provide customers with a swift and certain response to natural catastrophe events that threaten our customer’s operations and way of doing business. In this role you will be responsible for developing and underwriting parametric property opportunities and play a pivotal role in growing the FastCAT portfolio.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to developing business within distribution channels, prequalifying accounts, and utilizing underwriting acumen to select parametric property risks within the company’s risk appetite. You will be expected to develop strong relationships with brokers, customers and BHSI teammates.

We are seeking an individual with a background in property underwriting, who enthusiastically strives for excellence in every area from analyzing risks to delivering customer and broker service.

In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help build a portfolio of business is required.

You should be comfortable working closely with colleagues including the Claims team, Legal team, CAT Engineering & Analytics team.

Excellent Administration, Data And File Management Skills Are Required.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and build a profitable book of parametric business
• Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
• Identify and prequalify new business
• Work closely with the CAT Engineering & Analytics team, Claims team and Legal team in the development and servicing of FastCAT products
• Work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity
  
  

Preferred Experience

• 3+ years property insurance experience
• Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail
• Experience with, and strong understanding of policy forms
• Proven customer and broker relationship experience
• Adaptable in a fast-paced environment
• Strong understanding of CAT peril modeling/pricing
• Thorough understanding of parametric policy forms
• Positive collaboration and team building skills
• Excellent communication skills including negotiation and presentation experience
• Willingness to travel

The base salary range for this position is from $100,000 to $135,000, along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
