Scopely is looking for a Principal/Lead Character Artist to join us remotely from the US!

Scopely is building an exciting AAA multiplayer action game for consoles, PC, and mobile, using Unreal 5. We believe this stylized fantasy project has the potential to be massive in scale and industry-defining!

What You Will Do

As a Principal Technical Artist, you will help elevate the stylized art and define the pipelines that will bring an incredible new fantasy game to life. You will have a team wide impact, driving areas such as materials, lighting, multi-platform performance, graphics features, and player customization; whatever you can get your hands in to make the game better. Skilled Technical Art generalists are encouraged to apply, but if you have deep specialized expertise in a couple areas please also get in touch. You will be working with an experienced AAA team to lay the foundations of this new world, and inspire artistic, creative, and technical innovation.

  • Work with the Art Director to elevate and drive the style and pipelines for art across the game
  • Collaborate with leadership to define a technical art roadmap
  • Contribute broadly across different disciplines: Materials, lighting, rendering, gameplay blueprints, performance optimization, toolsets and pipelines
  • Design new visual features and implement them in game
  • Document and onboard artists and designers to your new pipelines and methodologies
  • Embrace feedback and iteration to solve difficult challenges, focusing on the player experience
  • Ensure visuals are at a high quality and performant across different platforms
  • Work with cross-discipline teams to accomplish art, gameplay, and technical goals
  • Help define and maintain a consistently high quality bar for the game and franchise
  • Guide and mentor other team members and partners


What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of related experience, ideally shipping multiple high quality games
  • Unreal game engine expertise, including materials, blueprints, and lighting and rendering
  • Ability to translate art team goals into creative solutions to hit quality and efficiency goals
  • Multiplatform performance analysis and optimization experience
  • A critical eye for art quality and deep understanding of modern game pipelines
  • Experience producing clear technical documentation
  • Experience working on stylized or non photoreal games
  • Ability to work well within a cross-discipline, iterative, team environment
  • Ability to lead, either by example as a principal craft leader, or as a manager


Bonus Points

  • Love of fantasy universes in any form of media
  • Passion for games, stories, and creating rich player experiences
  • Programming experience is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with multiplayer action games a plus
  • Experience with standard art creation tools such as Maya, Substance Painter, and Photoshop


For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY and WA, the annual salary range is $164,000 - 247,000, plus equity, bonus and benefits including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time-off. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
