We are seeking a Director of Individual Giving & Major gifts to join the development team. The Director, Individual Giving and Major Gifts and will develop a program focused on major donors and manage their own portfolio. The Director will also work with other senior leaders on the development team, executive team, and board to cultivate and solicit major donors.


The successful candidate is an experienced front-line fundraiser skilled in strategically using data and systems at all points in the giving cycle. A director who is a high-energy, entrepreneurial, results-driven, highly organized development professional with outstanding writing and communication skills will thrive in this role. The Director will report to the Chief Development Officer and supervise the Associate Director, Individual Giving and Associate Director, Development Operations.


WHAT YOU’LL DO


  • Cultivate and steward relationships with key donors and stakeholders and oversee a portfolio of 75-100 donors and prospects
  • Lead pipeline development in the Major Gifts area
  • Develop and execute moves management strategies to maintain and grow new and existing relationships
  • Providing staffing, support and recommendations to Executive Leadership on cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Plan cultivation and stewardship events as they relate to the major donor acquisition and stewardship
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director Individual Giving on mid-level donors ($1K-9.9K) to identify those with capacity and strategize to move them up the pipeline
  • Oversee the Associate Director on the implementation of lower level giving program ($0-$999)
  • Prepare, draft, coordinate, and submit donor stewardship and appeals for major donors
  • Supervise the preparation of ongoing acknowledgment letters, thank you letters, and letters of inquiry as appropriate
  • Prepare and manage revenue projections and budgets for individual giving and major gifts
  • In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer, manage board relations for the fundraising team including solicitations and relevant board committees
  • Provide direction on and/or execute donor materials including prospect research, briefing memos, stewardship materials, and talking points/scripts
  • Supervise weekly, monthly, and quarterly statistical reports to quantify moves management and outcome goals
  • Perform other duties to support the Development department/function as assigned



ABOUT YOU


  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in annual or individual giving in an established development program, and a proven track record of growing individual giving pipelines and securing 5 and 6-figure gifts
  • Intense drive for results, sense of urgency, and a demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals and creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Experience in planning a range of successful fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship events from intimate cocktail parties to large-scale galas
  • Fluency in data management using fundraising CRM systems; strong analytical skills, and a track record of using data and systems to drive fundraising strategy
  • Experience creating and managing departmental budgets and revenue projections
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience providing staff supervisions and leadership; strong team-building and collaborative skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organization skills, multi-tasking ability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to contribute to problem-solving activities within a growing, changing organization
  • Cultural competence/humility and the ability to thrive in a diverse work environment
  • Proficiency in Salesforce preferred; experience with CRMs required.
  • Travel up to 15%
  • Must have the ability to be in NYC or other locations for in person meetings with donors as needed
