The American Thoracic Society (ATS) improves global health by advancing research, patient care, and public health in pulmonary disease, critical illness, and sleep disorders. Founded in 1905 to combat TB (Tuberculosis), the ATS has grown to tackle asthma, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), lung cancer, sepsis, acute respiratory distress, and sleep apnea, among other diseases.



The Position:

Reporting directly into the ATS Associate Director of Grants & Awards, the Senior Manager of Grants & Awards, manages, develops, and provides support for the ATS Research Program and other award programs. The Associate Director and Senior Manager oversee our Science & Innovation Center, Abstract Scholarship Programs, a subset of our Assembly Awards, and International Conference Activities.



Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages the current awardee grant process (project updates, payments, status reports).
  • Reviews incoming grant applications, keeps applicants apprised of their status, assists with the ranking and review processes, correlates review scores.
  • Oversees the Research Program email account and the “more information” website listserv.
  • Maintains and updates content on the ATS website and Salesforce.
  • Develops internal management processes to help market, collect, organize, review, award, and track Letters of Intent (LOIs), along with full applications and grant awardees.
  • Collaborates with ATS Information Technology (IT), Communications, and Finance Teams, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Updates Award criteria in conjunction with planning committee chairs.
  • Develops award schedules and manages all communications and mass emails Organizes virtual scholarship presentation with the 14 Assembly Program Chairs and Chair-Elects, to discuss and prepare for Abstract Scholarship Program.
  • Coordinates yearly process with program chairs to develop distribution list for ~250 Abstract Scholarship Awardees.
  • Manages financial operations of all awards with monetary value.



Position Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required; BA/BS degree preferred.
  • 5 years of experience working in an administrative capacity required.
  • Experience in grants administration, preferably in medical research.
  • Advanced technological skills and experience with Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Zoom, and grants management system or database like Access.
  • Familiarity with grant peer review processes a plus.
  • Great organizational and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently as well as on a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work.

Physical requirements:

  • Please note that this is a hybrid position that will require you to come into our New York Office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week.
  • Some travel may be required, such as to our annual International Conference.
  • You may experience prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing.
  • You may experience repeated typing motions involving your wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • You may need to lift or carry up to 15 pounds of work equipment.



Pay Range: We are pleased to offer a range of $85-$90K for this position.
