Overview

Plans and directs the activities of the Manufacturing Engineering personnel in the application of approved manufacturing engineering practices and procedures to promote timely production of products of high quality and low cost.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates, performs and maintains method improvement and cost reduction programs. These programs are initiated to provide continual improvement in quality, reduce the cost and allow the most effective method of manufacturing.
  • Develops and maintains a plan to evaluate and improve the overall manufacturing strategy. This strategic plan includes evaluation of manufacturing processes, justification of required equipment, design and manufacture of tooling fixtures and analysis of facilities changes to ensure a product of high quality and low cost is manufactured.
  • Works closely with Manufacturing Manager to evaluate current value streams, assesses and prioritizes areas of improvement, implements Kaizen events or lean projects in an effort to reduce waste and improve processes in the manufacturing area; maintains key metrics on cost and lead time reduction due to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains the capital equipment plan. This includes coordinating and submitting the specific annual C.E. plan.
  • Prepares, submits and adheres to the budget, which allows meeting the planned goals and objectives.
  • Actively supports the Corporate HSE initiative by holding HSE meetings in accordance with Corporate HSE Plan. Develops safe work environment and promotes the use of personal protective equipment and safe work habits for employees. Participates in emergency drills, training, inspections, and incident investigations. Reports incidents and initiates corrective action when necessary. Ensures housekeeping standards are adequate to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Selects, evaluates, motivates and develops employees to ensure a qualified workforce necessary to meet company objectives while complying with EEO and Affirmative Action guidelines. Conducts performance reviews according to schedule, providing fair and accurate assessment of employee performance, training needs, areas for improvement and possibility of future growth within the organization.
  • Work with design engineers throughout design cycle on projects to improve throughput and lower manufacturing costs
  • Assist in design transfer from engineering to production.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing documents and standard operating procedures.
  • Works with vendors to acquire new equipment and/or fix existing equipment as needed.
  • Work with contract manufacturers and purchasers as needed.

Experience

  • B.S. in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or other accredited engineering discipline. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of diversified manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of latest machine tools and manufacturing technology and the process of justification and planning.
  • Experience developing manufacturing capabilities for new products and improving manufacturing capabilities of existing products.
  • Experience using tools like lean manufacturing and six sigma to focus on continuous process improvement.
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
  • Strong leadership and organizational capabilities
