Learning Specialist

AAA is hiring a Learning Specialist to join our team! This position will be primarily responsible for training our Roadside Service drivers.


This position offers a work from home schedule, however, the selected candidate must reside in the Akron, Ohio; Toledo, Ohio; or Columbus, Ohio areas due to required travel in these regions.

What You'll Do:

  • Administer all training and coaching needs to roadside service personnel, fleet managers and support staff.
  • Create training materials, job aides and use creative analytical thinking in order to meet and exceed the business partner’s needs.
  • Supports Automotive Business training in battery, towing, systems, and any other project needs.
  • Utilizes independent thought and judgment in course delivery and adaptation, identifying and meeting learner gaps as identified through assessment, evaluation, and monitoring.
  • Evaluates, documents, and monitors associate performance during learning and/or support initiatives and ride-alongs, identifies areas of opportunity, provides reports/updates to appropriate management, and if necessary, recommends appropriate action that may include coaching skill development. Incorporates internal and external monitoring processes when available and provides feedback to associate’s supervisor/manager.
  • Utilizes the Learning Management System (AAAU) for all course management and administration. Monitors applications functionality and ensures that updates are available to, and understood by, the business line Associates.
  • Interacts with associates throughout ACA on specific organization defined processes and techniques to develop and implement learning initiatives and programs.
  • Serves as Learning & Development representative on business line teams and networks across the organization. Attends all meetings, as requested by the business line and regularly reports project team efforts to L&D Management.
  • Builds learning solutions designed to meet organizational goals and priorities. Utilizes design documents and storyboards, and implements best practices in adult learning theory. Leverages innovative learning methodology and technology to engage participants, deliver content and increase overall effectiveness of learning. Completes pilot testing and calibrates to achieve program objectives.
  • Provides post-class performance management, in office, on the phone, or virtually, to support learners to achieve performance results as it aligns with learning programs.
  • Actively participates in professional learning organizations and external committees to stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices to recommend changes to current L&D practices and processes


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Adult Learning, Education or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a learning and development role. Automotive, towing, and/or driver experience is a plus.
  • Have advanced PC skills and experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel (required)
  • Ability to organize and coordinate numerous activities, and speak effectively in a public setting.
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure that course venues are set up correctly for the method of learning and time is managed during individual sessions so that they can finish the course on time.
  • Ability to facilitate training programs. Be a confident speaker with excellent communication skills and be comfortable presenting in front of small groups both in person and virtually.
  • Familiarity with workshops, classroom lectures, presentations, online learning, one-to-one coaching, and/or group role-play session a plus.
  • Ability to apply independent judgment to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures, interpret precedent and adopt standard methods of practice to meet variations in fact and/or conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and respond to changing work priorities.
  • Completion of IITR or other industry recognized towing program (preferred)
  • Possession of an ASE Certification in A6, A8 and/or Automotive Master Certification (preferred)
