The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has a graduate research associate position available through the Cancer Prevention Department. Specifically, this position is under the direction of Dr. Vida Henderson within the Division of Public Health Sciences at Fred Hutch. Dr. Henderson’s research aims to improve gender and racial health inequities by exploring multi-level barriers to cancer care and service utilization and developing and testing interventions to overcome these barriers, with the overarching goal of increasing health equity. Most of her work focuses cancer disparities and inequities, minority health, breast cancer disparities, women’s health, health communication, health services utilization, and community-engaged research. Dr. Henderson’s research uses diverse methods of qualitative and mixed methods research methodology as well as program evaluation, intervention design and implementation, and dissemination science.

Responsibilities

Duties for this position will allow participation along the entire research continuum, from study development to dissemination of results. They will work closely with Dr. Henderson and research collaborators based in both locally and nationally.

Responsibilities Include

  • Help develop grant proposals
  • Help prepare research materials (such as study protocols, questionnaires, educational materials, and data collection instruments)
  • Conduct and oversee data collection and management; help generate study reports
  • Conduct data analysis under the guidance of the PI, Co-Is, and other supporting staff
  • Help prepare and submit abstracts and manuscripts for publication
  • Prepare presentations, posters, reports, communication briefs, and web pages for dissemination of results
  • Present research to various scientific and community audiences
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary investigators
  • Assist with undergraduate or summer program mentorship activities
  • Assist with meeting agendas and notetaking

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post Master’s or equivalent qualification with a background in Public Health research including health behavior research, health services research, Epidemiology/Biostatistics, mixed methods research or related subject areas.
  • High level of attention to detail, excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written skills, including academic writing skills. Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating communication across a broad range of research stakeholders (e.g., community partners, study participants, policymakers; representatives from professional bodies and civil society organizations; PIs; project managers and study coordinators; research assistants; etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain respectful, productive working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple organizations.
  • Ability to think critically and synthesize complex issues to move projects forward.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience working with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $19.97 to $48.08 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
