Job Description

The Furniture Designer's focus is to proactively lead the space planning, product selection, sourcing, and documentation of furniture products and finishes on commercial interior design projects. You may also be part of a team on large and/or complex design projects.

This is a full-time position that will support the Design Studio, working primarily in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the design quality for FF&E design across of all applicable projects they are directing, and proactive involvement in the quality of the studio.
  • Main client interface for furniture presentation and implementation of the design and foster a genuine, accountable relationship with the client throughout the project.
  • Collaborate with other members of the design studio to develop a holistic solution for our clients.
  • Proactively lead the design, research, and selection of furniture products.
  • Coordinate with Furniture PM on client expectations, budget, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with Preconstruction and Project Delivery teams to ensure design concepts are maintained while ensuring constructability and project budgets are achieved and on schedule.
  • Collaborate on furniture schedule and resource planning for project roadmap.
  • Participate in workplace strategy to understand and contribute to formation of furniture package goals and strategies.
  • Coordinate with lead interior designers on design intent and project goal alignment.
  • Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, fabricators, and other vendors.
  • Attend project meetings and participate in presentations and project-related activities.
  • Coordinate with technical/drafting designers on showing accurate graphics/CAD blocks/Revit families, power locations and furniture-related architectural coordination.
  • Create tagged plan and supplementary furniture documentation to support drawings
  • Produce or participate in the development of graphic presentations, communication of design concepts, and client design presentations.
  • Assist the project team in producing presentation materials and coordinating furniture designs with vendors and other resources.
  • Select furniture finishes and material palettes; conduct product research and generate specifications as required
  • Conduct site visits as needed to lead or assist with furniture punch list.
  • Adhere to company policies/guidelines listed in policies, procedures, and handbooks.
  • Carry out any task requested that is legal, moral, and in the company's best interest.
  • Represent the firm in a professional manner consistent with firm values and culture.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Associate, Bachelors,' or Masters' degree in interior design from a FlDER-accredited university-level program
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant professional experience at a design firm or furniture dealership
  • Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, lnDesign, Illustrator), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in 3D furniture modeling and design (CET/Sketchup/Revit/CAP).
  • Able to balance working on multiple simultaneous projects with various team members.
  • Able to direct less experienced staff and educate the studio around furniture design.
  • Strong verbal and graphic presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability for analytical thinking and creative problem solving.
  • Understand and compare general pricing, quality, and options from major brands.
  • General understanding of technical specifications and furniture purchasing basics.
  • Strong direct knowledge of fabric and finish option suitability and the ability to conduct product research and resolve custom requests.

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires the employee to:
  • Sit for hours at a desk or in meetings with occasional standing and walking.
  • Work in an open office setting with noise, talking, and others working nearby.
  • Occasionally work long hours, nights, or weekends as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Visit clients in the region and travel occasionally within the US.
  • Follow OSHA regulations and company policies with care and professionalism.
