About The Team And The Role

Would you like to help build a world class, global research system that will drive eBay’s product roadmap? Seek, eBay’s in-house user feedback, bug reporting, and UX research system is being rebuilt for scale and simplicity, while incorporating new reporting and AI capabilities. Join our team as we build the research system of the future. As part of the UX research team, which sits within the design org, you will be part of an interesting and ever-evolving team.

Our technology stack includes Node.js, MarkoJS, React, and Java based back-end. Given the nature of a global research system, extensive database knowledge, SQL, and Spark on Hadoop are required. The ideal candidate will have a good mix of frontend and backend skills, and be able to translate their work into requirements for Android and iOS engineers to achieve feature parity. Familiarity with using AI at scale is a plus. Ability to talk about research methodologies, statistical analysis, and data visualization concepts with practicing researchers and data analysts is a big plus.

What You Will Accomplish

  • Design, build, and ship features for our in-house research systems that will be seen and used by millions of eBay users.
  • Oversee native engineering work to achieve feature parity across Android and iOS platforms.
  • Communicate effectively, within the team and across disciplines. Work closely with researchers, data analysts, product managers, and designers to craft intuitive and functional research systems.
  • Contribute meaningfully to the product strategy for research systems. We expect all engineers to be active contributors to team success and excellence.
  • Participate in product reviews and team meetings, providing technical insight. Help scope, estimate, and prioritize between conflicting needs.


What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years (or) a MS in Computer Science and 1+ years of software design and front-end engineering experience
  • Expertise in React, Node.js, MarkoJS + any other Javascript framework, HTML, CSS3, RESTful API’s, and GraphQL
  • Experience with cross-browser, cross-platform, and design constraints on the web and mobile
  • Experience with testing frameworks, and can write high quality, testable, maintainable code
  • Self-motivated engineer with a demonstrated ability to unravel complex organizational and technical blockers at the scale of global ecommerce
  • Strong communicator that can speak to their experience working with cross-functional partners
  • English fluency is a must. German language skills would be an unexpected plus.
