Department Profile

The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firms books and records, and by contributing to firmwide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close activities for carried interest compensation plans including mark-to-market revenue and expense, fund distributions and payments to participants
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet and P&L accounts
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly investment and compensation reporting schedules
  • Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders including Human Resources, Investment Management Controllers, Legal Entity Controllers, Financial and Regulatory Reporting, Tax and Morgan Stanley’s fund and plan administrators
  • Maintain and update strong control environment/audit documentation
  • Assist with Ad Hoc requests and projects.

Skills Required:

  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • CPA candidate preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting/finance experience, compensation/investment accounting a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to prioritize and complete deliverables in a timely manner with high attention to detail


Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $70,000 and $105,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
