Exceptional Children Director for Charlotte Region

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Exceptional Children is responsible for the leadership and coordination of the Exceptional Children's Programs across all the Movement Schools in North Carolina. The Director of Exceptional Children provides leadership, management, supervision, evaluation, coordination, and direction for all exceptional children's programs and related services for students with disabilities who attend any Movement School across North Carolina.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring compliance to meet state and federal mandates
  • Strategic professional development
  • Recommends and manages budgets for exceptional children's program
  • Secure additional funding as needed to support EC Departments Complete annual EC grants and all related submissions for all schools
  • Lead all audits regarding EC Securing and managing external providers related to exceptional children's services across schools
  • Supporting equitable evidence-based practices
  • Represents schools in legal proceedings, participates in IEP meetings, discussion, informal conferences, mediation, and due process hearing to resolve issues regarding exceptional children's services.
  • Develops and maintains liaison with appropriate governmental agencies and relevant community groups and remains current on legislation pertaining to areas of special education.
  • Assists in developing policies and procedures related to Exceptional Children's Services at all Movement Schools
  • Use a continuous improvement model to evaluate current effectiveness of program and make necessary programmatic changes to increase student achievement
  • Supervise, evaluate, and lead a team of EC Coordinators that are placed at each school to effectively implement high quality EC programming across Movement Network.
  • Oversee reporting and compliance, including preparation and submission of all reports and data for federal, state, and district monitoring of special education

Education and Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Special Education or related field
  • Minimum of 3 year of EC teaching experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience preferred
  • Knowledge of State and Federal legislation as it relates to Exceptional Children
  • Knowledge of budget and finance related to Exceptional Children
  • Seniority level
