Job Title: DEI Innovations Team Intern - Project/Event Management
Location: Remote, with optional on-site opportunities during the conference
Duration: 1-month Internship (June 2024)
Compensation: $20-30/hour, 40 hrs/week

A fantastic opportunity for a 1-month internship in Project/Event Management with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is available! Our client is seeking a candidate passionate about DEI advocacy to join them in June to help with a large DEI-focused event. This position provides an excellent platform for gaining skills and experience to help in your future career.
About the Role:
As a DEI Innovations Team Intern in the Workforce Strategies section, you will contribute to our client's mission by providing enterprise-level strategies for diversity, inclusion, equity, anti-racism, and cultural competency. You will provide program support for the Workforce Planning and Strategy team, with a primary focus on the ongoing DEI Empowerment Conference, supporting the duties of the DEI Special Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Workforce Diversity Strategies:
- As part of the DEI Conference Team, you will assist with planning, execution, and communication support for the Statewide DEI Conference
- Coordinate info session meetings.
- Update the conference website.
- Provide support for conference feedback.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Act as a backup participant in section-level work, providing support efforts when requested.
- Liaise with the DEI Conference Core Team to keep current with other state agencies and exchange internal and external promotion communication.
- Answer questions from state communicators, share news, processes, and strategies, and attend planning meetings as time allows.
- Record and monitor chat during the event.
- Work with the communications manager to print and proofread the website and program for accessibility.
- Support event planning and execution tasks as needed.

- Excellent writing and editing skills; ability to produce clear, concise, and engaging written materials.
- Analytical and reasoning skills: document processes and procedures for consistency and completeness.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro, etc.
- Customer service orientation: recognize both internal and external customers, value feedback, and resolve needs timely.
- Strong interpersonal skills: actively pursue common ground with co-workers to work effectively together.
- Professionalism: take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, work with ethics and integrity, respect confidentiality, and engage the right stakeholders before sharing information.
Preferred/Desired Education, Experience, and Competencies:
- 1 year of increasing responsibility in communicating with a diverse group of people in marketing, public relations, or a closely allied field.
- Willingness to learn and embrace virtual work/meeting/conference platforms.

- The DEI Empowerment Conference serves 5,000 employees in person and 60,000+ online.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- The internship is totally remote, with the option to attend the conference in person if desired.
