SUMMARY:

As the Engineering Manager for Hine Automation, you will manages all engineering activities within the engineering department. Implement and maintain overall engineering standards, objectives and initiatives using schedules. Confront and solve performance/operational issues to improve product efficiency and reliability. Lead and develop the engineering team. Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.

Typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience

Duties And Responsibilities

Supervises and leads engineering department

  • Identifies and develops required engineering competencies required to achieve company objectives
  • Hires, trains, and mentors other engineers and supporting staff
  • Writes performance reviews, holds 1-2-1s and solves internal issues
  • Confers with Senior Management

Leads & assists others in the analysis of engineering issues and develop viable, proactive solutions to problems in Engineering, Manufacturing and in the Field

  • Coordinate and direct projects including creating schedules and detailed plans to accomplish set goals to ensure timely and accurate completion of engineering projects
  • Implement engineering design standards and establishes criteria related to drafting, standards and general practices
  • Organizes, plans, and executes projects & activities to meet customer or market needs
  • Ensures the quality and technical accuracy of product engineering work
  • Reviews and is part of the approval process on new or modified product designs
  • Drafts and/or reviews proposals and reports for customers

Strong background in Controls

  • Experience developing automation and controls applications (robotics preferred)
  • Familiar with all phases of software lifecycle management
  • Working knowledge with developing embedded control systems
  • Experience with revision control systems (subversion preferred)
  • Proficient in multiple development environments
  • Experience developing TwinCAT controls applications

Continuously improves business processes and practices related to the engineering function

  • Establishes detailed plans and schedules to accomplish departmental objectives
  • Manages budget and related expenses per department requirements within corporate guidelines
  • Manages outsource engineering service providers
  • Assures compliance with all Hine standards, policies, practices, etc.
  • Maintains a clean safe work environment

Supervisory Responsibilities

Engineering department consisting of mechanical, electrical and software engineers

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or other related discipline
  • Minimum five years related experience, with minimum two years recent supervisory experience
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, major credit card (for business travel), and passport

Skills And Abilities

  • Proven ability to lead and develop an engineering team
  • Ability to systematically solve and lead others in the solution of technical problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively: internally and externally, with co-workers, vendors and customers, as required
  • Ability to compile and analyze technical data, write reports, and present technical information to various groups
  • Proficient in CAD (Inventor preferred), and Microsoft Office software applications
  • Ability to interpret technical journals and papers, and other related material
  • Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma principles
  • Working knowledge of product technology is preferred

Work Environment And Physical Demands

  • The normal work environment is typical of a business office, manufacturing laboratory, and support areas such as production, test, and stockroom.
  • The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, touch, see, and hear.
  • The incumbent may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions.
  • Must be able to work on production floor, laboratory in the field or at customer site without physical impediments. Vision correctable to 20/20 and ability to hear with corrective devices.
