At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers , and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical Research Center , a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Director of Grants/Contracts in the Administration division.

The Director of Grants/Contracts will provide leadership, oversight, and management of the Office of Sponsored Projects.

Major Responsibilities

  • Design, lead and oversee the execution of an institution-wide public and private grants program totaling ~$50 million annually. Efforts range from finding grant sources and informing appropriate individuals to ensuring compliance with regulations once funded.
  • Continually review and update information pertaining to changes in federal regulations, specific agency requirements, and procedures for administration of funded award and provide advice and assistance regarding sponsored research administration to faculty and staff.
  • Review, estimate and negotiate clinical trial agreements. Compile and submit proposals for external funding.
  • Supervise the sponsored projects team who is responsible for the review of proposals and contracts for compliance with federal regulations, state laws and university guidelines.
  • Oversee maintenance of a database specifically designed for sponsored research activities. Provide information from this database for administrative and financial reporting as needed.
  • Assist with budget development.
  • Coordinate sub-recipient and professional service agreements.
  • Serve on institutional committees related to external funding as needed including Audit, Conflict of Interest and Policy Committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or related field.
  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in grant and contract administration, with at least two (2) of the five years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
  • Detailed knowledge of federal regulations related to grants and contracts including Federal Uniform Guidance requirements, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
