Director of Network Engineering
Job Description
The Director Enterprise Networking provides leadership, technical direction and operational oversight to the Enterprise Network teams that are responsible for all networking systems, WAN/LAN/Internet, Data Center operations, Unified Communications platforms, VoIP systems, communications systems (voice and video) and daily operational support. This role will consult, architect, and deliver a high availability network that is built with a focus on customer-centric availability and resiliency.
Responsibilities
Manages and sets priorities for the design, maintenance development and evaluation of all network systems and related areas
Manages the financial resources, contracts and personnel budgets for projects and operations relating to the network team; makes determinations regarding the financial soundness of decisions and makes recommendations to improve overall cost effectiveness of the network infrastructure & IT across the organization; plans and manages the organizations budget
Oversees the creation and execution of roadmaps outlining the technology strategy and the investments in infrastructure that will enable the companys strategic plans across all business areas
Establishes key performance indicators and service level agreements for continually improving the performance of IT operations
Oversees the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures to ensure the most efficient delivery of Enterprise Network services
Works closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment between the network and enterprise architectures and initiatives to ensure strategic planning
Works collaboratively with the information security team to assist in the prevention, detection, and mitigation of security events
Tracks, reports upon and manages key enterprise-wide network infrastructure metrics, including team performance and capacity planning, ensuring alignment with required support and key initiatives
Manages vendor relationships and SLAs
Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelors Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field of study and or experience
Minimum of ten (10) years experience leading IT network functions
Minimum 5+ years of deep experience with Network Engineering
Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on architecture and design expertise
Cisco Certified engineer in one or more of the following (CCIE, CCDE, CCDP, CCAr, CCDA, CCNP, CCNA)
Strong executive presence and leadership knowledge, resulting in the ability to forge cross-functional partnerships and drive strong, organization results
Demonstrated success managing a 24/7/365 large scale large scale, high availability network environments
Demonstrated technical skills in all phases of operations network design, implementation and analysis techniques
Experience successfully leading, motivating, and building a network engineering and operations teams
In-depth technical expertise and a demonstrated capability to drive complex networking and communications projects to successful completion and manage department and project budgets and funding
Ability to assess stressful troubleshooting situations, establish a plan of action, and manage resources to a successful resolution
Ability to plan and execute procurement efforts of systems, services and other related items as applicable to competitive bidding procedures, RFP generation and bid evaluation, contract negotiations and vendor management
Ability to develop, maintain and report on complex project schedules, resource loading, critical path dependencies, budget versus actual variances, and project milestone achievements
Broad understanding of IT/Communication industry trends and tools as they apply to providing solutions to stated business issues and opportunities.
Ability to manage cross-departmental projects and make quick decisions based on information provided to ensure Change Management protocols are being followed
Desired Skillsets
Cisco networking and network security technologies and protocols
Expert knowledge and experience in the deployment and maintenance of enterprise switched networks, including (VTP, STP, HSRP, trunking, VLANs, port security and monitoring) in a multi-vendor environment
Experience in Disaster Recovery
Knowledge of LAN, WAN, SAN, VMware, telecommunications, security and data center systems, equipment and technologies
Experience with load balancing and WAF technology, such as F5
In-depth knowledge of Voice over IP; experience with Cisco and Microsoft VOIP products
Experience with Solarwinds and other network management and monitoring solutions
Advanced knowledge of Data Center network design, architecture, protocols and network topology Multi-vendor Data Center networking hardware experience including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, F5, A10, etc.
