Director of Finance and Administration


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) is primarily responsible for organization’s accounting and finance functions and leads internal teams to support the following areas: accounts payable, payroll, finance, business planning and budgeting, and administration. The DFA will also manage the relationship with human resources and IT service providers. This is a high-functioning position that ensures the affiliate meets a standard of quality and performance in its finance and business operations.


The Director of Finance and Administration plays a critical role with the senior leadership team in strategic decision-making and operational management as Habitat MCTX fulfills its strategic plan and pursues its ambitious vision.

Essential Functions:

Finance

  • Ensure that all financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions are accurate, professional, and timely.
  • Ensure that mortgage activity and transactions are timely and accurately recorded in accounting software.
  • Prepare cash forecasts and oversee the administration of bank accounts and other investments.
  • Prepare and monitor the annual budget process; present fiscal year budget to Board of Directors for approval.
  • Prepare various financial reports, information, and analysis as needed.
  • Manage grant reporting, compliance, and monitoring as needed.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and techniques to ensure internal control.
  • Coordinate and assist in the completion of the annual audit.
  • Provide information and documents related to the construction and sale of houses.
  • Collect, record, and prepare construction activity for analyses.
  • Conduct real estate transactions for the organization as appropriate.
  • Manage insurance policies, license renewals, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure organizational compliance related to administrative functions of the organization.
  • Prepare and present financial reports at periodically scheduled Board of Directors’ meetings.
  • Provide staff support to the Finance and Property Management Committee.
  • Supervise and monitor the performance of assigned staff.

Human Resources and Information Technology

  • Oversee Habitat MCTX’s relationship with human resources service provider to ensure human resource compliance with internal policy, laws, and industry best practice; and promoting Habitat MCTX’s goals for employee retention and development, equitable compensation and benefits, and inclusive recruiting.
  • Oversee investments in technology, administrative systems, and facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operations as the organization grows.
  • Collaboratively develop new policies and processes to adapt to changes in operations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with accounting major. CPA strongly preferred but not required.
  • At least 5-10 years of relevant experience managing accounting and finance functions of a comparable entity with at least three-plus years of broad or upper management financial reporting experience. In addition, public accounting experience, particularly involving non-profit organizations strongly preferred.
  • Experience with accountability and final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit results.
  • Experience in one or more of the following strongly preferred: government grants management, residential real estate development, and mortgage lending.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with - programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
  • Commitment to professional development programs that maximize individual and organization goals, including best practices in human resources activities.
  • A successful history in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and critical thinking skills which support and enable sound decision making.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job operates primarily in a professional office environment.

Occasionally works in outside conditions that can include inclement weather, heat and humidity, high noise levels and navigating rough terrain.

Must be able to travel to meetings and events and communicate appropriately with stakeholders.

Office hours Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. A flexible work schedule is available.

Some evening and weekend hours required.
