Summary

This position serves as a Dietician/Nutrition Services Director for the Nutrition Department of the Clinical Services section at the Pine Ridge Service Unit, Pine Ridge, SD. The position will serve as the Director of the Nutrition Services Department, which provides meal service for the inpatient hospital facility, which plans and coordinates all care of the Nutrition Services, responsible for daily management and operation of dietary services, includes providing oversight, direction and coordination of clinical, hospital and community-based nutrition services. The position also serves as Clinical Dietitian delivering services to adult, geriatric and pediatric patients. May be required to be on-call by telephone and/or remote access on alternating weekends.

Duties

  • Develops menus pattern for inpatient and outpatient use, reviews and evaluates menus with consideration of availability of resources, nutrition requirements, diet modifications and patient acceptance.
  • Provides nutritional care for patients in the outpatient setting and collaborates with inpatient department to provide discharge counseling. Works with adults and children of all ages in the nutritional treatment of various diagnoses (i.e., renal disease, hypertension, cancer, prediabetes, diabetes and diabetic complications, infections, accidents, trauma, and alcohol related disorders).
  • Knowledge of nutrition supply sources and inventory control and departmental budget.
  • Assist with development of policies and procedures related to nutritional prevention and intervention.
  • Monitor and evaluate activities of nutrition and dietetics program for performance improvement.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Applicants Must Meet One Of The Following Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.
  • Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
  • Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

Minimum Qualifications

GS-11: You must meet one of the following requirements to meet the GS-11 grade level:

  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: developing detailed nutritional care plans; providing nutritional consulting services to patients; assessing nutritional needs related to several types of diabetes; interviewing techniques and patient care management; providing nutritional education to individuals, families, and community groups; OR
  • Three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR
  • Combination of education and specialized experience that when fully combined meets the minimum qualifications for this position.

Education

This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.

Only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may be credited.

If you are using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education.
