San Diego FC (San Diego FC) is the newest member of the MLS family. As part of the unique Right to Dream model and the Sycuan Tribe’s deep roots, we are proud to be building a San Diego-centric soccer organization that honors our history and celebrates emerging excellence. 

 

POSITON:

Help build-on and enhance the club wide sporting data strategy for San Diego FC, in collaboration with the Right to Dream ecosystem. The role will contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a group wide system that drives objective decision-making across analysis, performance & player recruitment.

 

RESPONSIBILITES:


• Working with specialist department leaders, help create a plan and strategy for all technology utilization within the sporting side (performance/medical, scouting & recruitment, technical/analysis, leadership)

• Build dashboards that effectively show trends across team, league and player performances that can be used across all sporting departments

• Develop and explore custom visualizations & metrics that fit the groups game model to assist in all areas of sport performance (i.e. preparation, tracking & prediction)

• Lead the creation of automated scripts and reports to enhance delivery of information and efficiency of workflows

• Ensure all data processes are efficient, reliable and in line with club standards and time frames

• Coordinate and align data usage and standards across First Team and Academy

• Work with business IT Director to oversee the integration of sporting data sources into a secure cloud-based system

• Research and review work from other professional in the analytics field to generate ideas for processes and workflows

• Explore new datasets and ideas in the area to consider for practical use

• Develop strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary team, educating and upskilling on analytical capabilities

• Actively participate in regular department meetings, virtual and in-person

• Adhere to any other requests that meet the needs of the organization

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates can meet the requirements with a combination of experience in the following areas:

 

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Expertise in data visualization and corresponding tools (Tableau, PowerBI, RShiny, etc)
  • Coding and programming skills (R, Python, SQL)
  • Excellent analytical and verbal communication skills – the ability to convey the ‘story’ from the data
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks based on impact to organization
  • Experience working within an elite sporting organization
  • High level of soccer knowledge and experience, specifically within MLS, USSF, CONCACAF and FIFA
  • Understanding and ability to use data to make informed decisions on players
  • Experience in data technologies like: Statsbomb,
  • Skillcorner, StatsPerform, Wyscout, etc.
  • Passport and ability to travel domestically and abroad 

 

Preferred:

• Experience in a similar role working with coaches and performance staff

• Understanding of cloud computing environments

• Knowledge of video analysis software and workflows

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) or multi-lingual fluency

• Coaching badges & experience a plus

• Playing experience a plus
