Copy Editor (Remote)

Compensation Range: $40 - 45 per hour

Our client is seeking a skilled and meticulous Copy Editor to join their dynamic in-house agency team!

In this role, you will provide editing services for the in-house agency, ensuring all materials reflect the highest level of quality, readability, accuracy, and alignment with brand tone and voice standards. This role requires outstanding editing skills, attention to detail, deadline sensitivity, autonomy, and a team orientation in completing assigned projects and tasks. A basic understanding of client's business challenges is necessary to ensure final edited materials are accurate, clear, consistent, and impactful. Proofreading assistance may be required upon request to improve quality and accuracy.

Responsibilities:

• Check content, impose consistent styles and reword or rewrite work as needed to improve readability.
• Suggest changes, verify sources and correct grammar and punctuation to prepare the work for client presentation and publication.
• Edit according to project specifications.
• Code copy for design features, such as hierarchy of headings, to instruct the production team.
• Ensure that graphics and illustrations are correctly captioned and referred to in the text.
• Work to a style checklist to ensure consistency in trademarks, hyphenation, capitalization, formatting of references, etc.
• Proofread material as demand and scheduling requires.
• Collaborate with Account Services team as needed for specific project objectives.
• Ensure all editing results in a consistent voice and tone across all copy, in alignment with the brand tone and voice standards.
• Edit and be accountable for the final review of writing assets and ensure accuracy (e.g., facts, quotes), attention to detail (e.g., grammar, punctuation, syntax, semantics) and overall meets or exceed the writing objectives.
• Ensure brand messaging guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions.
• Become familiar with legal guidelines to expedite approval process.
• Deliver edited, complete, error-free copy.
• Understand clients' products, audiences and business objectives and ensure copy is accurate and effective.
• Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures and workflows.
  
  
  

Qualifications:

• Experience level: Experienced
• Bachelor's degree required. Preferably in English or journalism.
• Minimum of three years professional level copy editing experience required.
• External or in-house agency experience required.
• Strong written communication skills required.
• Adept at embracing brand voice and tone then deploying consistently.
• Demonstrates proficient expertise in the MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Proficiency with AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style and standard proofreading marks.
• Understands editing applications in multichannel marketing applications.
• Actively learns new techniques to be more proficient in their editing skills.
• Demonstrates outstanding quality control practices.
• Operates effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, highly organized and multitasks effectively.
