Copy Editor - Freelance

REVOLT.tv is the online space for the unapologetic, authoritative voice of hip hop culture, which includes, but isn’t limited to, rap and R&B music, entertainment, sports, and social justice. REVOLT is looking for a freelancer copy editor for our news sites www.revolt.tv and www.rap-up.com who can work Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. ET – 5 p.m. ET. Possible holidays, which are generally half days, coverage may be needed, as well. The pay is $30 per hour and the role is remote. This is an 11-month contract role that can potentially become full-time. The ideal candidate:

• 5 years experience as a copy editor at a major news outlet
• Must be an AP Style expert (AP Nerds Only!) while able to learn REVOLT’s in-house style
• Must feel nauseous when seeing a typo or punctuation error
• Must be an EXCELLENT fact-checker who can spot and correct inaccuracies effectively and swiftly
• Must be able to edit short news articles as well as long-form pieces such as listicles, exclusive celeb interviews, op-eds, etc. like a pro
• Must work effectively in a fast-paced media environment
• Must be extremely detail-oriented
• Must be receptive to feedback (Stay out your feelings)
• Must have knowledge of CMS platforms while able to learn REVOLT’s Adobe CMS
• Knowledge of SEO is a HUGE plus
• MUST have knowledge of and love for hip hop, social justice, and Black culture overall
