Position Duties

The incumbent will be stationed at ERDC CHL, Coastal Engineering Branch, Vicksburg MS, and operate in a resource-rich work environment with specific duties that include:


  • and applying innovative large-scale, geomorphic assessment techniques and analyses on regional and project-specific coastal systems.
  • and/or willingness to cross interdisciplinary specialties in the areas of coastal and riverine sediment processes, statistics, programming and working with large spatio-temporal datasets, programming and technical writing.
  • specialized knowledge and skills, works with members of the Coastal Engineering Branch and other ERDC scientists and engineers to develop and conduct research on coastal sediment transport, hydrodynamics and beneficial use of dredged material assessment.
  • Ability to convey results concisely to federal and local sponsors through written reports and oral communication.
  • Master’s degree highly preferable; Bachelor’s degree at a minimum.
  • Interacting with Program Managers, Technical Directors and sponsor organizations to determine existing and future potential coastal engineering and navigation research needs.
  • Perform technology transfer of information and developed tools to sponsors and customers at stakeholder meetings and to peers and colleagues at workshops, training courses, and national and international conferences.


The Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is seeking a highly qualified person to fill a position on an interdisciplinary team related to Civil, Coastal, or Risk Engineering. The open position requires a candidate with experience and interest in geomorphic analyses on coastal systems. ERDC-CHL is seeking a mid-level to junior physical scientist who is detail-oriented, flexible, and willing to broaden their area of expertise related to the fields of physical sciences.
