Catastrophe Modeling Analyst

Our Reinsurance Division is seeking a Catastrophe Modeling Analyst to join our team. The position is based out of our Cincinnati office. The ideal candidate possesses a versatile analytical toolkit and is a curious learner, team contributor, and hardworking technical professional. The role level will be determined based on the knowledge, skills, and experience demonstrated.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Aggregates and analyzes data to evaluate catastrophe risk on an individual risk and portfolio basis using catastrophe modeling software.
  • Demonstrates strong statistical knowledge and abilities to utilize business software and tools to analyze data and predict or infer future outcomes.
  • Supports catastrophe risk exposure pricing, ratemaking, regulatory agency filings, underwriting, claims, exposure management, reinsurance treaty placements, etc.
  • Continually advances understanding of all aspects of catastrophe models and related considerations by studying professional literature, technical documentation, and vendor presentations.
  • Develops and performs model and input data testing and validation as a key supporting function.
  • Participates in change/update management that impacts or is driven by tools, data, methodologies, technology, models, vendor platforms, etc.
  • Effectively contributes in cross-functional teams to develop actionable insights and recommendations to management.
  • Applies quantitative skills to predict and explain the impact of potential business-related risks.
  • Leads small to moderately complex projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements: Must Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Field of Study: Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent experience is generally five to six years of appropriate experience, demonstrable aptitude, or skillset.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Motivation to perform as a creative, open-minded, and inquisitive contributor who can significantly contribute to the success of the overall team.
  • Ability to enthusiastically engage in customer support and interactions.


Job Requirements: Preferred to Have

  • Generally, two years of catastrophe, statistical, or other data modeling and analysis experience.
  • Experience with property (re)insurance industry catastrophe modeling platforms, such as Verisk (formerly AIR) Touchstone.
  • Industry experience with property (re)insurance.
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries.
