Your Mission:

The Lead Business Intelligence Developer, Global Business Intelligence will support a broad array of business stakeholders and partner with technology leaders to support the development and deployment of LCE/IHI enterprise-wide business intelligence. The role will support the Manager of Business Intelligence in creating enterprise BI that enables executives, leaders, and operators to make data driven decisions. This position will be active in building a roadmap to drive the future state, as well as making that future state a reality. The company is clear and committed to the “what” – enabling data driven decisioning, as well as the “why” - to make a great company even better- and is looking to the Lead BI Developer, Global Business Intelligence to help shape the “how”. This role will build on the existing foundation of Business Intelligence by increasing the focus on stakeholder engagement and the delivery of essential BI/KPIs and critical reporting. This role reports to the Manager, Global Business Intelligence who is a member of the leadership team of the Global Data and Analytics COE.


How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Provides direction to others and acts individually to develop highly actionable BI by engaging with business leaders, decision makers, systems and data owners, and end users to define goals and requirements for reports, dashboards, and analytics
  • Provides direction to others and acts individually to dig into the business goals and operations as well as available data sources to ensures KPIs and Reporting truly meet the business need
  • Provides direction to others and acts individually to design, develop, and deliver recurring and ad-hoc BI solutions to support the goals of the enterprises
  • Partners with Data Engineering to ensure reports are built in an efficient, reliable, cost-effective way, building out the BI suite over time
  • Mentors BI Developers across the companies in both the hard skills like data, tech and analytics, as well as the soft skills, like stakeholder engagement
  • Develops strategies to educate business users on how to effectively use the recurring reports and helps them build skills to create relevant custom reports
  • Uses knowledge of business goals and operations as well as and available data sources to frame up and discover opportunities in the BI landscape
  • Leads discussion and prioritization of BI requests within one ore more assigned business units. Manages the relationship between the BI team and those assigned business units.
  • Acts as a BI thought leader in the enterprises by continuously improving our capability in BI and analytics broadly
  • Types of Assignments:
  • Responsible for the individual delivery of large, complex system components. Lead Medium-sized projects (up to 52 FTE weeks) being responsible for technical quality, on-time delivery and performance of other technical resources on the project.
  • Lead other developers in creating BI deliverables using a formal software development methodology such as Agile. Lead ceremonies such as estimation, planning sessions and project kick-offs. Mentor more junior developers on estimation skills.
  • Provide technology guidance to less experienced colleagues while completing development assignments. Provide material feedback on the work of more junior programmers. Mentor them on identifying the right solutions to solve problems.
  • Support and provide guidance to Quality Assurance (QA) in the development of integration test plans, test conditions, expected test results, and automated testing.
  • Lead research and identification of root causes for system issues. Identify deficiencies or alternatives and present proposals to more senior engineers including weighing the pros and cons of different solutions. Participate in technical aspects of system evaluation and vendor selection processes.
  • Mentor others and implement best practices on technical tasks which support the overall BI development team.
  • Lead the design and architecture of medium-sized software projects. Ensure team develops excellent quality solutions with a focus on stability, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Provide support for production applications including on-call afterhours support on a rotational basis. Develop and maintain support documentation.
  • o You may manage a team of more junior developers who will report directly to you. Responsibilities include day-to-day management, performance reviews, regular 1 on 1 sessions, and mentoring career growth. Provide constructive feedback for more junior colleagues who may not be direct reports during their performance review cycle.


Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, technology, engineering, or a related field
  • 7 + years’ experience directly related to the development of data driven KPIs, Business Intelligence and Analytics in mid-sized or large company
  • Expert in designing Power BI (or similar enterprise scale) dashboards incorporating advanced functionality and highly technical UX/UI
  • Expert in building highly technical SQL queries to extract large data sets for EDA, ad-hoc reporting, and BI development
  • Expert capability to engage leaders and understand their business challenges and help them address those challenges with BI and analytics
  • Ability to understand the strategic direction of a company and its data strategy and deliver tactically against in BI development
  • Capable of helping anticipate the future needs of the business in order to proactively prepare to meet business requests
  • Knowledge of the critical elements of BI and Analytics infrastructure
  • Knowledge of processes and tools (including embedded features) that secure data security and data privacy
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in hybrid technical environment
  • Experience in large consumer facing industry – auto, retail, QSR preferred.


Where You’ll Work:

  • This position requires on-call responsibilities requiring work during nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • This position may require minimal travel to vendor locations, assessment at stores and Ilitch Companies facilities, data centers or seminars/networking.
  • Requires extended periods of time sitting and talking on the phone.
  • Works in a normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, noise, dust, and the like.
