Position Title Assistant Professor of English (Full Time Temporary)

Class Summary

Responsible for providing instruction within the Humanities Department. Develop and revise curriculum and coursework. Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation, and maintain open and consistent communications with students. Attend Department meetings and other mandatory College events. Participate in mandatory College training and professional development.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience

Master’s degree in English or closely related field, or master’s degree in any field with at least 18 graduate hours in English.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience

Experience teaching at a community college and working with diverse student populations. Experience with dual-credit and online instruction.

Minimum Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of principles and practices of teaching. Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the specific course and program area; communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction. Computer literacy sufficient to perform job duties.

Job Duties

Instructional duties will include the following:

  • Prepare, develop, revise curriculum and course work.
  • Meet classes as scheduled.
  • Complete grading of course assignments and tests and issue student grades as scheduled in a timely manner.
  • Post and maintain office hours for student consultation.
  • Other duties as appropriate to the position.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or other move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
