Position Title: Academic Coach

Reports to: Senior Academic Coach

Supervises: N/A

Primary function: The Academic Coach is a key player in supporting the success and persistence of Saint Vincent College students. The Academic Coach works proactively with faculty advisors and academically at-risk students to promote habits and skills connected to academic goals; monitors academic progress and success; and provides highly responsive, holistic advisement on individual student needs and barriers to success inside and outside the classroom.

  • Provide proactive outreach and academic coaching for academically at-risk students to help them address their individual learning needs to increase achievement and persistence.
  • Work with students, in collaboration with faculty and staff, to promote the planning of intentional academic pathways.
  • Monitor individual student progress and work collaboratively with other Saint Vincent College student support and student alert processes.
  • Coordinate and offer programs tied to academic success and persistence, including a summer bridge program for conditionally admitted first-year students and specific resources for academically at-risk students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to intentionally connect academic work and skill development to the exploration of career pathways.

  • EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
  • At least two years’ experience with student development, mentoring, advising, career counseling, and/or providing student services in a higher education setting.
  • EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.

Essential Duties

  • Serve as a resource for students, specifically with respect to academic success planning and intervention.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and progress, using this information to inform program development and improvement.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Department of Student Academic Success student success planning, including setting goals, developing strategies, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Research and stay current with best practices in student success and academic support and make recommendations for improvements to programs and services based on emerging trends and research.
  • Develop and implement outreach and support programs to promote academic success and retention, such as peer tutoring, study groups, and academic workshops.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with faculty, staff, and other departments to identify and address student needs, and to promote a culture of student success across campus.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of student success initiatives and events, such as summer and fall orientation programs, summer bridge activities, academic support programs, and student success workshops.
  • Support programs, initiatives, and processes for the Office of Student Academic Success, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Duties

  • The work environment includes regular meetings and the occasional weekend or evening work relevant to Academic Affairs or Admissions events is required.
