PANTONE Color of the Year is always a highly anticipated announcement amongst the design industries, but the 2016 unveiling marked the first time that Pantone selected two colors for this distinction.
On launch day, PANTONE Color of the Year 2016 became a trending topic on Facebook and Twitter, and #Pantone was the number one trending term on Instagram the entire day. Global media coverage for the announcement broke all Color of the Year records, as articles appeared in a diverse range of influential general interest, lifestyle, business, design, and tech media outlets.
As part of the program, Pantone and Kwittken collaborated with top retailers and brands to curate a collection of Color of the Year-themed products and images for media and consumers. Pantone and Kwittken also worked with Crewest Studio, a street artist collective, to create three public art displays in New York City, Los Angeles and Miami and tapped a select group of content creators to create custom, highly visual Color of the Year Instagram posts that rolled out alongside the launch.
The 2016 North America SABRE Awards shortlist included around 300 campaigns, selected from among more than 2,000 entries in this year's competition, which recognizes superior achievement in branding, reputation and engagement. The campaigns were evaluated by a jury of more than 40 industry leaders.
