    This research shows that commercial women's websites and feminist websites differ greatly in ideology, structure, mission and perceived audience. This research also suggests that the gap between the audiences reached by feminist activists on the Internet is similar to that in real world commercial publishing, where women's traditional national magazines and television programs reach a far broader audience. Furthermore, commercial websites for women have garnered those larger audiences by featuring the same subjects as women's magazines—beauty, celebrity and gossip. This research found that feminist theories were rare in the commercial websites studied and often were co-opted by the very industries being critiqued by feminists.
