Verifications on your LinkedIn profile

Last updated: 2 weeks ago

At LinkedIn, we know that authenticity is key to creating meaningful interactions. The verification badge on your profile indicates that you were able to confirm specific information about your account. Verified information helps provide authenticity signals to others that you are who you say you are. Seeing verified information on others’ profiles helps foster a trusted community so you can make more informed decisions around connecting with other professionals.

When you are logged in to LinkedIn, a verified profile will include the verified badge near the member's name on their profile:

Currently, LinkedIn supports several forms of verification:

Identity verification

  • U.S., Canada, and Mexico: available to members with a valid government-issued ID and a U.S., Canadian, or Mexican personal phone number. Business phone numbers are not accepted.
  • Members with a valid NFC-enabled government passport: for availability, please follow this link. Currently available in these countries.
  • LinkedIn members have the option to verify their identity by uploading a government ID and/or taking a live selfie using certain trusted partners. These trusted partners (and their authorized processors) have sole access to such data and it’s deleted according to the applicable trusted partner’s privacy policy. LinkedIn does not receive any biometric data about LinkedIn members from these partners.

Workplace verification

  • Via Microsoft Entra Verified ID (available for select companies)
  • Via LinkedIn Learning License through companies (available for select companies)
  • Via Work Email (available for select companies)
  • Via active LinkedIn Recruiter license (not available for Recruiter Lite users)

Educational Institution verification

  • Via education email
  • Via LinkedIn Learning License

LinkedIn members have the option to verify their identity by uploading a government ID and/or taking a live selfie using certain trusted partners. These trusted partners (and their authorized processors) have sole access to such data and it’s deleted according to the applicable trusted partner’s privacy policy. LinkedIn does not receive any biometric data about LinkedIn members from these partners.

We’re continuing to expand eligibility and availability, and new types of verifications may become available in the future. To learn more about each form of verification, click on the following to expand the section.

Your choices around verifications

  • Verifications are visible, but you can remove them anytime. A verification indicating that your Identity, Workplace, or Educational Institution has been confirmed will be visible on your profile once a member completes the verification process. The actual information used for verification (i.e. the email address, information on your ID card or the workplace credential) will not be visible. The issuing country of your ID could be visible on your profile. You can remove verifications anytime in settings. Learn more about our practices in our Privacy Policy.
  • There is no additional cost to verify and add verifications to your LinkedIn profile.
  • The display of verifications on your profile may change as the feature evolves.
  • Verifications on your profile may be changed (e.g. Workplace verification may be removed if your organization changes the approved email domains for workplace verification with work email).
  • If you change your name, you may have to re-verify in order to keep your verification visible on your profile. When you verify your educational institution, workplace or identity, the name you use must match what’s on your LinkedIn profile.
  • Your verification may be shown on other features on the LinkedIn platform. For example, if you’re a customer with access to Job Slots and you actively post jobs, your verifications may show up on the jobs you post. These verifications are meant to help you build trust with job seekers and potential candidates.
  • Adding verifications is optional. It’s not a required step to complete your profile.
