Authenticator app overview

Two-Step Verification is a great way to protect your account. Two methods of verification are available: text (SMS) verification, and authenticator app verification. LinkedIn recommends the authenticator app as the preferred two-step verification method.  An authenticator mobile app gives you easy, secure access to online accounts you can use for a second layer of security in addition to your password entry. One example of an authenticator app is Microsoft Authenticator.

Follow the steps below to set up the authenticator app for Two-Step Verification:

  1. Install an authenticator app from your app store (such as Microsoft Authenticator).
  2. Select the profile icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and select Settings & Privacy.
  3. Under the Sign-in & security, select Two-step verification to enable or change your two-step verification method.
  4. Enable two-step verification and choose Authenticator App as your verification method. Select Continue and submit your LinkedIn password.
  5. Open your authenticator app and tap Add Account or click the + icon at the top right corner. If this is your first time setting up an account on the app, you’ll be prompted to set up an account.
  6. Select Other and use “LinkedIn” as the account name.
  7. Enter the secret key provided by LinkedIn into the Authenticator App.
  8. Enter the 6-digit verification code generated by your authenticator app to verify your device.
Now your device is ready for two-step authentication. Whenever you log in from a new device, open your Authenticator app and enter the code when prompted for two-step verification.
Important: The authenticator app connection is unique to each mobile device and each app install. If you uninstall the app, reset your mobile phone, or get a new mobile phone, you will need to set up the authenticator app again (see troubleshooting).
