Blog: https://lnkd.in/gfnWSPuT The current process of animal testing in drug development is fraught with ethical concerns and inefficiencies. This article explores the potential of AI to revolutionize animal research by significantly reducing or even eliminating the need for animal testing altogether. -> Ethical concerns: The current system of animal testing raises serious ethical concerns. Animals are often subjected to pain and suffering during testing.🐭❗ -> Inefficiencies: Animal testing is a slow and expensive process. It can take years to develop a new drug, and many drugs fail animal testing but are later found to be safe and effective in humans 🧍♂️✔ -> AI as a solution: AI offers a powerful approach to analyzing data to predict drug outcomes, potentially saving time, money, and of course, countless animals. This shift towards AI-driven research holds immense promise for the future of pharmaceutical development. 💊⬆ What are your thoughts on the role of AI in animal research? Let's discuss in the comments below! #Animaltesting #R&D #Pharma #drugtrial #AI

In this talk at Zifo’s SiEE conference recently held at Basel, Michael Brauburger, Program Lead Digital Lab Notebook at Sanofi, described how the company had previously struggled with multiple Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs), leading to data silos, high maintenance costs, and outdated functionalities. These legacy systems lacked user-friendliness, relied on on-premise storage, and had slow release cycles. Michael said the team identified a need for a single, cloud-based ELN solution with a modern interface. This solution should be flexible enough to cater to diverse research teams while enabling rapid deployment. To achieve this, his team implemented a "fast track" approach. However, they recognized the importance of proper preparation. This included not only technical aspects but also a methodological shift towards agility and a focus on iterative development. Michael’s team then embraced agile methodologies by adopting industry-standard tools like Confluence and Jira. This facilitated short feedback loops, allowing for continuous improvement throughout the rollout process. In this talk at Zifo’s SiEE conference recently held at Basel, Jens J. Christensen Director of R&D IT at Merck, described a successful transformation of a data processing team. Initially, scientists were stuck with manual data entry: imagine an immunology PhD stuck in Excel sheets! In Prague, however, things were different. The team there came from various backgrounds, not just pharma. Christensen saw an opportunity to turn this team from basic support to a full-fledged development or delivery group for technical tasks. The team grew significantly by focusing on core data management skills instead of specific subject matter expertise. In this talk at Zifo’s SiEE conference recently held at Basel, Andreas Steinle, Integration Lead PTD Penzberg at Roche, says that while tools like LIMS and ELN are important, the real key lies in FAIR data: data that's Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. This is especially crucial for AI analysis across locations and languages. We all know data integrity is a challenge. Fixing bad data eats up time, and frankly, manual data entry in 2024? We can do better! Let's embrace automation like other industries, as per Andreas. The future lab also needs to consider the remote work revolution. How can we leverage technology to empower scientists to work from anywhere, while still ensuring proper experiment execution?
