Whole Foods Market

Retail

Nourishing people and the planet.

About us

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in more than 500+ stores, with a passionate team of over 90,000 team members, 5 percent of our total net profits given back to our communities each year, and millions of customers who put their trust in us every day.

"I grew up in a family that loved fishing as a pastime in all waters: off Cape Cod chasing striper and bluefish or in small ponds and creeks for bass and trout. My fascination with seafood was engrained by visiting seafood markets throughout New England and in coastal communities in Europe during my childhood. One of my first summer jobs was pulling lobster pots in New Hampshire, which eventually led me to pulling Sockeye gillnets in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Through all those years, I also worked behind seafood counters selling fish and learning as much as I could about the industry.    I started with Whole Foods Market as a Seafood Team Member 17 years ago at the flagship store in Austin, TX. I was drawn to Whole Foods because of their strategic focus on sustainable seafood practices, something I wanted to be a part of. My entire career with Whole Foods has been in seafood, from the counter to Store Leadership, Regional Merchandising, and now Procuring seafood for all our stores alongside a talented team of buyers coast to coast.   My current role has allowed me to personally connect with the fishermen and farmers who supply our stores, deepening the longstanding relationships and Win-Win Partnerships that benefit all our stakeholders — including the environment and our customers. This summer’s Copper River Sockeye opener is a great example: As forecasted and for the first time in years, we’re seeing a robust supply of fish at opening and have set prices at an incredible value for this fishery and the high-quality product it delivers. Every season, our focus is on providing access to the best quality fish at the best value, and we're able to do that because of the trust built alongside our supplier partners. It’s incredible to support a team whose programming and purchasing strategies make an important impact through our entire supply chain. I’m consistently humbled to be part of a company with the leadership to develop and raise the bar for sustainable seafood standards that influence the rest of the industry.     A rising tide floats all boats." - Jason Hedlund, Principal Category Merchant of Seafood Procurement #Seafood #NourishPeople #TeamWFM

"I have proudly worked at Whole Foods Market for 22 years. As an avid home cook, I was drawn to the incredible food selection at the stores and the Quality Standards they adhered to. I was looking for a career change, and it looked like a fun place to work, so I joined in! I started as a Team Member, stocking shelves in the Grocery department when my Team Leader suggested I interview for an Order Writer position. I eventually moved into the Bakery Department as a Team Leader, and my passion for training began. As a Team Leader, I loved coaching Team Members and helping them explore the different career paths in the company. Eventually, I joined the Learning & Development Team to make training my full-time gig. :) My purpose is to serve and support our Team Members. Every day, I get to go to work and support our Team Members in achieving their career goals. We have development training programs available to Team Members in all positions, and these programs meet Team Members where they are in their learning. It is so rewarding to watch people nourish their ambitions and grow their careers. Getting to be a part of this process is my 'why'. I recently crossed my 40,000 service hour milestone and have been touched by how the company has celebrated my achievement. At every step of my career, I have had incredible leaders who have helped me to grow and develop my skills in the field of Learning & Development. This is a company where we support each other and celebrate our successes. I am so grateful I get to pass it on to new and future Team Members. Here's to the next 40,000 hours!" - Karel Traister, Sr. Learning & Development Analyst #Learning #Development #NourishPeople #TeamWFM

Gig alert: Designer (Austin-based) You're new school and old school. You'll work on everything digital to printed posters with that lovely smell of fresh ink and varnish. You're uber organized because we work fast and furious juggling multiple projects. You know the difference between communication and decoration (yep, make that price bigger). You're pleasantly distracted by the smell of food (we're constantly snacking here). You love Paul Rand, but don't think you're Paul Rand (only nice people, please). Your work will be on Amazon and in every Whole Foods Market. Bring your parents and show them your poster on mangos (which will probably be on sale). #designer #hiring #artdirection #teamWFM #design

"My Whole Foods Market journey began 22 years ago at our Manhasset store; since then, I have moved to many different stores throughout New York. Throughout my career, I received various opportunities to further my growth and developed tools to become a better leader for my team and our guests. I am still learning new ways to improve and greet every new lesson humbly. From our customers to our Team Members, I have met incredible people along my way to Store Leadership. Something I love about Whole Foods is its commitment to providing opportunities and encouragement for people to explore their interests and continue growing within the company. Now, as a Store Team Leader, I am honored to pass on that tradition by helping Team Members within my store grow the same way I was encouraged to. I can't wait to get into our new space at Huntington Station. I’m looking forward to building new relationships with a new team of talented individuals and serving a different community here in Long Island. Come and see us!" - Luis Alvarado, Store Team Leader #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

"We love to connect more deeply with our suppliers. We encourage our merchants to travel, to learn about the industry, to learn about different trends, to connect with the land where our products come from, the ingredients and different standards, and bring that knowledge back." - Anamaria Friede, Director of Merchandising – Center Store 💚💚💚 We're in South Korea alongside a team of our Category Merchants, visiting with our partners at Ocean's Halo for a fully immersive experience that brings the products we sell and the purpose we have that much closer together. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gymwRmKN #NourishPeople #NourishPurpose #NourishConnection #TeamWFM

"Sometimes, I think one person can learn principles on paper and then use a lifelong career to understand, implement, and live them. I view it as a fortune to work on food law, a niche area experiencing a lot of expansion, and I want to put to daily practice the principles I have learned." - Ge Song, Senior Principal Legal Counsel 💚💚💚 A round of congratulations to Ge Song for being named "One to Watch" by St. Louis Magazine for her legal regulatory work in food law and for connecting her profession and purpose by volunteering with the Whole Cities Foundation in St. Louis. 👏 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gn9iBPjX #Legal #NourishGrowth #NourishPeople #TeamWFM
