Last week, Matt Pohlson, co-founder and CEO of Omaze, joined #TeamWarby for a fireside chat with our co-founder and co-CEO Dave Gilboa, sponsored by our Mental Health Matters Employee Resource Group in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. During the event, Dave and Matt discussed everything from how attending a charity event hosted by Magic Johnson while in business school helped inspire the idea for Omaze, to how meditation has become a critical tool for Matt when it comes to dealing with stress, to how a near death experience in 2018 led to a pivot in the Omaze business model. Here are some of the learnings that #TeamWarby took away from the event. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and to lean on people who you feel can advise you. Connecting your goals to something bigger in this world can give you the extra fuel you need to stay persistent. Be a best friend to yourself. In business, we can often feel like being hard on ourselves is the key to getting to the next level. But in actuality, it’s important to be kind to yourself. The power of optimism can change the outcome of things. If you have a clear vision for what you want to achieve, and you anticipate all the obstacles in getting there, having focus and positive energy can get you to where you want to be.
