In honor of #pridemonth, VillageCareMAX is highlighting some of the trailblazers who broke down barriers and advanced healthcare. Today we honor Dr. Nicholas A. Rango a pioneering figure in the fight against AIDS and a passionate champion for LGBTQ+ rights. Despite the prevailing stigma, he fearlessly embraced his own identity and used his influence to advocate for greater acceptance and equal rights for the LGBTQIA+ community. In 1981, Dr. Rango joined the board of directors at VillageCare and played a pivotal role in shaping the organization's enduring commitment to supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS. His visionary leadership in the early 1990s paved the way for a comprehensive multi-year plan to address the AIDS epidemic, including the development of a groundbreaking three-phase long-term care AIDS program. During the 1980s, Dr. Rango became the inaugural director of the State Department of Health’s AIDS Institute and was instrumental in devising the state's five-year strategy to combat AIDS. As we commemorate Pride Month, we reflect on the profound impact of Dr. Rango's advocacy and his unwavering dedication to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their health challenges, receives the care and respect they deserve. His enduring legacy lives on through VillageCare's ongoing efforts to deliver inclusive and compassionate services to all. #pridemonth #LGBTQ #Pride2024 #LGBTQIA #pridecelebration #prideparade #queerpride #villagecaremax #villagecare
