15 USGA teammates, 20 interns and nearly 1,200 volunteers, all led by Managing Director of Merchandise & Licensing Mary Lopuszynski. The team operating the 35,000 square-foot Merchandise Pavilion at the 124th U.S. Open has one goal: ensure every fan's experience is as good it can be.

“If we could create 1,000 golf opportunities for a million kids over the next 10-20 years, think of all the new regular golfers at the top of the funnel.”   Now in his second year as president of the USGA, Fred Perpall, FAIA is determined to leave the game more welcoming and accessible than he found it.

We’re excited to welcome 24 interns to Pinehurst next week for the third edition of the Pathways Internship!   The immersive, 10-day educational experience, reflects our organizational commitment to advance more equitable and accessible opportunities for individuals interested in working in golf. Interns will be exposed to the to various career pathways available in the game through job shadowing, networking with industry leaders, and professional development sessions.

In February, the USGA announced the launch of the Wilson Endowed Research Fund, an initiative that would provide financial support for individuals wishing to conduct original research utilizing the collections of the USGA Golf Museum and Library in Liberty Corner, N.J. The USGA Golf Museum and Library has selected Eric Steagall, a Ph.D. candidate at Georgia Tech University, as the 2024 recipient of this grant.   Below you can read the abstract for Steagall’s research project, “The Making and Meaning of Bobby Jones in the 1920s."

Earlier this week, Golf Channel won two Sports Emmy Awards for its feature on U.S. Adaptive Open competitor Alex Fourie! The feature won in both the Outstanding Long Feature category, as well as the Outstanding Editing - Long Form category. A huge thank you to the Golf Channel features team, which put significant resources and investment behind telling this incredible story.

It takes industry collaboration to build America’s first true youth development pathway for young golfers. Thank you to the members of the Athlete Development Advisory Group for joining us in helping the next generation achieve their goals!
